It says you can gain a familiar, but it doesn't explicitly say you can only have one familiar. It implies that you can summon a familiar more than once (supposedly after your previous familiar has died, but it's not necessarily limited to that). But "a character with more than one class that grants a familiar may have only one familiar at a time." So a sorcerer/wizard can only have one, but a wizard can have several.
(Not really, of course.)
