If you're going to use metamorphosis a lot it helps to pick a race that's a construct, elemental, outsider, or undead, because you can't otherwise metamorph into one of those types. I had a lot of fun with the psi-forged warforged variant who "transformed" into other constructs. (It was in Eberron so it fit.)
