I'm running a Dark Sun campaign. It's currently 4th-level, and I'm finding a distinct lack of:
1) NPCs.
2) Tokens for said NPCs.
This thread is for the former issue.
Generally I'm looking at controllers and artillery here. I usually have a better handle of fighters and so forth; they're more available from various supplements as well.
The pyrokineticist is generally a poorly-trained, mostly self-taught wilder with a gift for psionically sparking fire. More conventionally-trained psions often treat them with scorn... but cross the street when they see one anyway.
Human Psion, Pyrokineticist
Level 5 Artillery
Medium natural humanoid, XP 200
HP 51 (25)
AC 17; Fort 17, Ref 17, Will 19
Speed 6 Initiative +3 Perceptoin +6
Resist 5 fire
Saving Throws +5 against charm
Standard Actions
Fiery Touch (fire, psionic) * At-Will. Atk: +9 vs Ref. Hit: The target takes 10 ongoing fire damage (save ends).
Spontaneous Combustion (fire, psionic) *At-Will. Atk: Ranged 10; +9 vs Fort. Hit: 2d6+6 fire damage. The pyrokineticist can sustain the power as a standard action, dealing 2d6+6 fire damage.
Conflagration (fire, psionic) * Recharge 4. Atk: Area burst 1 within 10; +9 vs Ref. Hit: 1d8+6 fire damage, and the target takes 5 ongoing fire damage (save ends). Miss: 1d8+3 fire damage and no ongoing damage.
Triggered Actions
Empty Mind (psionic) * Encounter. Trigger: The pyrokineticist is hit by an attack against Will. Effect (Immediate Interrupt): The pyrokineticist gains a bonus to Will until the end of its next turn.
Skills: Intimidate +8, Psionics +9 (this is the Arcana skill, reflavored).
Str 12 Dex 12 Wis 18
Con 15 Int 14 Cha 13
EQ: Leather armor. The pyrokineticist only needs their mind, and nothing else.
Issues:
He only has one recharge ability, which is low for a controller. However, the recharge on it is very good. Doing damage on a miss might be too good.
He could use an ability called Infuse with Fire (or, probably, something more suited to his powers), the fiery equivalent of the Psionic Augmentation monster theme. As an encounter ability, this would enable him to deal +2d6 fire damage when he "hits" with an at-will attack. In effect, it's simply a high damage encounter ability.
