Is it a thin black mousepad with the Dell logo in the middle? Has a shiny, sort of gridded/patterned surface? Yep. Toss it and go to Staples or Office Depot and get a plain, smooth, flat-colored mousepad, or don't use any pad at all. Optical mice don't really need a pad, as long as the table surface you are using it on is smooth.

I have three optical mice at home and don't use mousepads with any of them. They're not necessary.

Mousepads are completely unneccessary for optical mice, unless your tabletop is causing problems.

I use a mousepad with my optical mouse because my desk surface isn't the smoothest. It's an old desk that needs a bit o' sanding and refinishing.
