Pterra

Anyone out there want to help flesh out the humans of Pterra? Any other races?

We've got Water and Earth Dwarves, (Pyr-Zud are the fire dwarves, detailed soon).
Shael Elves
Very neat Kobolds
Bastani gnomes
Reclusive Island dwelling halflings
Half-orc barbarians
Draakhin lizardfolk
Aarokocra
Add orcs and the swamp goblins to that list too.

For villain races, we have the Aboleths, Ophidian humans (Yuan-ti,I presume), kuo-toa, did I miss any?

Maybe just the Sahuagin left.

Quite a list. I kind of envisioned the Draakhin as villains as well for some reason.

orcs... *sigh* do we need to have orcs? (take this as a honest question)
Orcs and half-orcs were listed as part of the Dal-Heggoth tribe that was created on page one, I think. I was bringing them up because someone created a spot for them, and I didn't want to leave out someone's creation.

They seemed to fill both, like almost all of the other races described so far. Perhaps a good way to seperate the races would be something like standard races (races that are typical adventuring races, and low ECL races, or those that are numerous and those that are not) Much like they do in the setting rulebooks? Just a suggestion.

man, I really wish I had access to a spelling/grammer checker on this temp computer..

PTERRAN GEOGRAPHY SO FAR

Pterra is a lush and warm land situated in the southern climes of its world, a land where dinosaurs still thrive and where reptiles are dominant. Numerous islands dot its coasts, settled by the Mar-Zud dwarves, the humans of Anchorhome, by the halfling Ruu-Kashtta, and menaced by the Sahuagin and Kuo-Toa raiders of the depths. The mighty Naktch-Nitil river carves a meandering path through Pterra’s heartlands from the heights of the majestic Naxatul Mountains to the sea, emerging in a vast swamp delta on the northern coast that is the home of the Shael, a reclusive race of elves. Dangerous jungles shroud the southeast regions of Pterra, reaching as far south as the Ice Wall Peaks and the ash plains of the interior, where the lizardfolk known as Draakhin dwell in their desert citadels, deep in the shadows of rumbling volcanoes.

That covers the basics so far. The southwest areas of Pterra are yet to be developed in any way and most of the rest has only barely been touched upon by previous posters. Help me fill the map.

To the South West corner of the Pterran continent lays the Xindigroth Wastes. This once lush and fertile plain used to be home to the city of Xindigroth. Xindigroth was a city where dragons and humans lived together in peace. However, a schism occurred in the ruling class and dragon hierarchy leading to civil war. Human mages, taught by their dragon brethren, were able to use epic level spells against the opposing faction. Most of the details of the war are lost to history; all that is known is that now Xindigroth is a cold, dry, salt-encrusted desert. The spot where the city of Xindigroth once lay now is a large black dome that no known science or spell can penetrate.

The waste itself is home to many bizarre undead, aberrations, and rogue constructs. Adventures still brave the wastes in search of treasure from the old world.

Remember that in the north of Pterra is a vast savannah where the Dal-Heggoth clans live, and the savannah is next to a sea (on which side of the savannah is still undetermined).

Also, remember that the ocean on the western side of Pterra has been called the Great Western Sea.

In the far west of Pterra, but not quite near any eastern coasts, lies the Yanithryss Jungle, which partially obscures the great, maze-like Velduin Canyon amidst the Jungle. Living within this winding Canyon are the Dal-Velduinar humans, a barely-more-than-primitive society, just a small magnitude more civilized than the northern Dal-Heggoth. These folk have only recently devised their own crossbows, catapults, and ballistas, after fighting Draakhin in the War of Scaled Crowns. Dal-Velduinar have only a crude remembrance of the common human tongue, and mostly speak their own strange dialect, called Veldali.

The Velduin Canyon is wide and deep, with many small rivers and streams flowing along the majority of its rifts. Dal-Velduinar live in adobe mud-brick houses along the Canyon walls, which have many wide ledges in some sections. These people venerate great spirits of vegetation, fungus, rain, and shepherding, being mostly a peaceful culture, but they also revere the Vulture-Headed God and the Scorpion God, whose faiths teach opportunism as well as vicious defense of life and property. Thus, most Dal-Velduinar learn at least some fighting skills, particularly with spears, javelins, staves, handaxes, and throwing axes.

A small majority of the Dal-Velduinar's food comes from an underground forest, not far beneath the Velduin Canyon, since it is easier to reach than the Yanithryss at the far top of the Canyon. This underground forest, called Gi'ma-Ha'danu Shu'may I'gatua-Pa'u by Dal-Velduinar, the Respectfully Feared Forest of Colorful Darkness, is filled with a variety of unusual plants and fungi that thrive without sunlight, quite varied in coloration. Streams from underground reservoirs trickle in through small cracks along the walls of the great cavern, carrying with them a few small fish, but the only other inhabitants of the underground forest are a large variety of dangerous insects. The cavern has many pillars of stone that support it, which seem as likely as not to be artificial.
