I'm in a discussion elsewhere that folks here can perhaps shed some light upon...
It's been said that, for gaming, there's no such thing as "bad publicity". We note that our hobby took a big growth spurt in the early 1980s due to bad publicity surrounding the deaths of James Dallas Egbert and Irving Lee Pulling, and the book and movie "Mazes and Monsters". That today people lick Jack Chick don't keep anyone away, and if anything they help sell RPGs.
I'm interested in what you industry folk think. Do you find that "bad press" help or hinders your sales? Do you think the growth of the 1980s was due to the bad press, or do you think that's putting the cart before the horse?
While this is a poll, I'm actually rather more interested in what you have to say than in which poll option you choose. If you've got actual sales data that sheds light on the matter, so much the better.
