First Post
(I'm posting this to all of the places I discuss gaming work with the public.)
As some of you know, I have been ill throughout my adult life with a complex set of immunological, neurological, and metabolic problems, difficult to diagnose and more difficult to treat usefully. I've had up years and down, but lately the trend has been less than encouraging. It's taking me more energy to do the things I'm committed to, and there've been too many lapses lately where I couldn't finish something that I committed to, cared about, and genuinely wanted to make work.
Much of this doesn't matter to you the public at large. But some of its consequences do. In particular, I find myself unable to reliably deal with the ups and downs of public discourse in gaming forums, mailing lists, and the like while also creating the books that will be discussed later. I get irritated too easily, distracted too easily, discouraged too easily. Right now I create with more enthusiasm and talent when I'm further removed from the usual gathering spots, and I'd rather be creating well than not.
So I'm pulling the curtain closed for a while. I will certainly continue to read e-mail, arrange for the posting of important news and cool tidbits, and so on. Furthermore, my colleagues will continue to say their pieces, and to discuss their experiences with me - I'll be hearing about what's come up. It's just that if I continue in this way, I'll end up neither producing good books or being a constructive or enjoyable participant in online discourse, and what sort of a deal is that, for any of us? Not a good one, I'm thinking. Until such time as I can break down some of the physical barriers I wrestle with, please enjoy the books and direct your comments and concerns to my fellow creators. If anything really crucial comes up, you can get in touch with me via the info below, and those who want to can follow the personal news as well.
I'll repeat the important point: Enjoy the books. That really is what this about. I want to do my best work so that you can have your best fun. Everything else is icing on the cake.
