Putting Down a Cat

the Jester

Legend
So one of my friends (Sam) and I are going to put down her cat tomorrow... he's really sick and it's definitely time, but it makes me really sad. :( I've known and loved him since the night he came home as a wee lil kitten, a stray rescued by one of my friends (Sam's boyfriend at the time) when he was a security guard.

I'm gonna miss him.

I'm going with her to the vet, and it's going to be a sad moment.

Any cat lovers, raise one for Apparatchik tomorrow night. :(

I dread the day that I'm in the same position. My three cats are like my children (if I had any that is) and I treat them like it.

My thoughts and prayers will be with your friend.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Kasey (my cat) and I will be thinking of you and your friend. I say this as my cat lays on top of my monitor with his head hanging down blocking half the screen.

I will definitely be thinking of you all. My three cats are my children and I can't even fathom my life without them. It sounds like Apparatchik had a good life, though, full of people who care about him.

Yep, I'm definately a farm boy. When I read "putting down a cat", I immediately assumed you were going to do it yourself like I had to do a couple of times growing up when our cats got too sick or crippled.

That's a rural upbringing for you.

Jester, my deepest sympathies, empathies, and condolances to you and Sam. I love cats very much, and have had at least one my entire life. Having had to successively bury four of them now, I can understand how you and she must feel.

The thing to do is remember the good things. Don't forget that, as you said, he's very sick, so what you're doing is kindness, not cruelty; if Apparatchik could speak, I'm sure he'd thank you for this, and for bringing him home and giving him your love in the first place.

Also, remember all the good times you and Sam had with him. If you have pictures, looking back over them can help you remember all the times you laughed and had fun with him.

I'll be wishing you two, and Apparatchik, well in my thoughts.

I know how rough it can be.

When we lost our dog to an automobile a few years ago, I heard "this is the first time I have ever seen you cry" from more than one individual that I've known for my entire life.

Yeah, but farm cats are work hands....not part of the family.

I lost both my cats (mum and daughter) a few years ago (a couple of years apart, though.)

They had good and long lives with much love, but it was sad anyway, and I miss them still.

Condolences. I will take a moment out tomorrow.
