Putting Gary in your Campaign (forever immortalised)

First Post
Everyone's talking about tributes and the like, personally I think the best tribute anyone could give would have Gary written into their campaign. I mean what better tribute than having him in your adventure.

So would like to get your ideas on having Gygax in your campagin, would you have him as a

lesser god
"Kneel before Gygax you pitiful mortal !"

powerful wizard
"As you enter the tower of gygax you feel unearthly powers gravitate around you, this was going to be a very dangerous and delicate encounter"

town hero
"Aye that's a statue of the town hero Gygax, saved this town more times than I care to remember"

Mythical beast
"Oh Crap its a Gygax, run everyone RUN !"

A Titanic Clash
Gygax: "Drizzt your ass is mine"
Drizzit: "Bring it Gygax !"

Just to name a few

Perhaps he can even get immortalized into an official 4e core book, I mean they haven't gone to print yet have they. Perhaps a new set of Artifacts and Spells . Gygax's Crushing Heel, The Eye of Gygax.

Personally I think any artifact of Gygax would have to give a good death save, Gary saved vs Death for half damage several times to survive strokes and a heart attack. Guess eventually no matter your death save your gonna hit a natural 1 and be toast.

This reminds me of when, in Knights of the Dinner Table, Gary Jackson died. Nitro (who ran a campaign where all the gawds were dead celebrities from the real world) immediately made Gary the head gawd of his campaign world. All of the Knights were rather uncomfortable with that, with Sara remarking that it would have been nice if there'd been a respectful period of waiting before doing that.

That's sort of how I feel about this idea. I'm sure it's meant well, but right now it makes me feel a bit awkward. Probably the best way to go about it is to use many of the characters/items that were named after Gary himself in your game. The next time you have Zagyg show up, that's Gary right there.

Everyone Mourns in their own way. And everyone feels differently about death.

Defiantly not an idea I expected everyone to embrace, but I don't really subscribe to the idea of "too soon". Now or later its just one more way of saying thanks.

Well, Scott Rouse has said that Mr. Gygax is getting a dedication in each of the 4e core books, so there's a bit of "immortality" right there.

And I will be greatly surprised if in a later sourcebook WotC doesn't give the gentleman a "wink and nod," either with a magic item or an NPC.

I'd like to see Gary immortalized as a diety in the new 4E cosmology. I think that would be very poetic.

Not that I'm saying he's a god, per se, but he is the "creator".

I thought for a second about suggesting a memorial dungeon, or a memorial adventure, or whatever, but the entire industry is his memorial. You could still do it, but it would just be another brick in the wall of the building that he built.

That said, you can damn well rest assured that some version of Gygax will be in every single one of my games.

(Sorta like I do with Lovecraft).

Those who play Greyhawk will always have the mad archmage Zagig Yragenre, the talisman of Xagy, the mad god Xagyg, the ring of Gaxx, and the map of the Expedition to the Barrier Peaks spelling "E G G"

Indeed, as long as there are spells by Mordenkainen, Gary is there.

Anyone notice how the dragons have a god named Garyx? Did Gary invent that one, or was it a homage?
