Putting yourself into the story

S'mon: Yeah I understand that. I just not sure if we can pull that off since I have never tried something like that before. I do like the idea and it is toiling around in my head so right now.

Danny: I kind of like that idea. Might have to consider it.

Blue: That is my first inclination. But then I feel like I am not using her backstory to its full potential is the flip side which is why I am conflicted. I like "samurai drama" style of RP a lot (probably comes from running L5R for a decade) so I really want to use her backstory to its fullest.

In-game, the PC had a failed SO relationship of some sort instead of meeting You. Rebounding from that put her in touch with the 'love spirit'. The spirit gave her a vision of her true soul-mate (You) but vague data as to location. She went where she was guided, and now is on the lookout.

You may never appear (because you are meant to be the person she meets in your (plural) old age?) but 'the man you wish you were' could show up.

I love the concept of making the love interest a major villain but again it feels weird considering I would be playing myself.

+1 for using the word masturbatory. Using such a word in online intercourse takes balls. Just be careful playing yourself.

There's the potential for weirdness when your SO plays. Then, when your SO spends part of the game looking for her lover, there's more potential. Where it gets officially weird is when "you" finally appear in the game, and the other players are stuck watching you two have a romantic moment that might, or might not, be role-playing.

. . . but 'the man you wish you were' could show up.
This could be . . . cool. Just don't state it explicitly, or your whole story could end up in the "DM mistakes that actually made me quit" thread.
