Question about the Dragon Disciple PrC (Tome & Blood)

It's level one ability is to increase your Hit Die to 1d6 (and later on, makes it even higher).

My question is, is this change for the rest of the character's career, or is the die improved just for Dragon Disciple levels?

For instance, would a sorcerer who took just one level of Dragon Disciple, then went back to Sorcerer roll a d6 for HP? What if the character then took a level of Fighter? Would he only get a d6?

No worse than a Spellsword. It gives a Sorcerer a way to branch into combat in a more magical fashion, as certain other classes allow a Fighter to do the same in a more martial fashion.

The PrC could have been packaged little better, and I think the new version is going to look a little better, but it works well for what it tries to accomplish. It can also be quite devestating.

Don't get me wrong. I think it's a decent class, and it's a really cool idea for a class... but that one ability is just about pointless, especially since Dragon Disciple doesn't give the Sorceror (or Bard) anything in the way of combat ability.

It would be a better class if it gave +1 spellcaster level in some fashion, even if only on alternating levels, like the Spellsword.
