D&D 5E Question for AL

I wanted to do something for a backstory but my friend says it would be against AL rules. Building an airship by hand. Or claw in his case. Would it be legal or should I give up?

You'd never acquire said airship for use over the course of play, but if it's his retirement project off camera than it's fine.

Nothing stops you from saying "I built an airship by hand" but the airship will not be appearing in your character's possessions list, or be useable in any module. (Drat; that sounds like fun)

One of the 4e sourcebooks has a cartoon with a tiefling looking up and saying, "...So, Mr. DM, that is how I got this + 20 Amulet of Protection from my background..." and a voice balloon from the top edge of the panel says "Hahahaha ... No."
