Quests of Doom 2: Six New 5E Adventures from the Necromancers!

Quests of Doom 2 is coming soon from Necromancer Games. Unlike QoD1, this one won't be a Kickstarter - instead, they're simply taking direct pre-orders. This book contains six adventures, all for 6th level or below. (thanks to Jeremy for the scoop) "From the weird and terrifying interior of the Spire of Iron and Crystal (cover) to the heat-misted Jungle Ruins of Madaro-Shanti, this sequel to the two-volume Quests of Doom offers a whole new set of adventures for Fifth Edition. These adventures are all for characters level six and below, so the book isn't going to sit on the shelf and gather dust. Are your players up to the challenge of old-school First Edition style play? Make them earn those experience points."

Pre-orders are here. The release date is based on the pre-orders; they will give the go-ahead to the printer at $5000 of pre-orders (in essence it's almost like a Kickstarter with using Kickstarter!)

"We intend to raise at least $5000 in pre-orders for Quests of Doom 2 over the next few weeks, at which point we will give the green light to the printer just like our other Kickstarter project. "Why not just use Kickstarter?" you ask... well for two reasons really...

1. This is a rather small project compared to our others, and 2. We are curious how our customers will respond to this pre-order method.

We have many new titles coming out over the next year. In order to achieve a timely publishing schedule, we need to determine the best process for funding the production of each title."

My understanding is that Center Stage paid FGG a licensing fee to use their IP to make miniatures and then Center Stage failed to deliver. How is this FGG's fault?

They kind of screwed us backers out of getting product by nuking the Mortal Arrow deal because they wouldnt get their cut of sales. The Tome of Horrors kickstarter had run out funds and couldnt deliver. Another backer and owner of Mortal Arrow offered to buy the molds, greens, etc and basically give us store credit which could match any funds we put in. It wasnt perfect, but at least we could get something, the artists who made the greens could be paid, and the sculpts wouldnt go to waste. FGG nixed it because they wanted a cut of every figure sold. The deal fell through, and everyone got hosed. But hey, at least FGG got their 15% license fee on zero sales!

I'm not even sure why a license would be needed, since it seems they just swiped monsters under the initial OGL and republished them.

Didn't necromancer have a special one off license with wotc over and above the ogl? Did any of those minsters come from those?

I totally forgot about the whole Mortal Arrow debacle...IIRC they wouldn't go with Mortal Arrow also because he wasn't "established" like Matt Solarz was...a lot of good that did.

Also they misinterpreted Mortal Arrow's idea about how they would get bad PR if they couldn't help out the backers. They assumed it was some kind of threat that he might what, post something negative in the KS comments?

No, Mortal Arrow was right, in that the bad PR has to do with Frog God Games laissez-faire attitude and complete lack of goodwill towards the backers, and some of us, like myself an ehren37; still remember.

The Llamas are loose!

Just to try and help clear up this up with a few actual facts - or at least FGG public comments on the matter. Here is a link to Matt Finch's (of FGG) KS comments (with links to their blog - //froggodgames(dot)org/blog/regarding-center-stage-miniatures ). Scroll down to dates: Nov 11, 2014 to Nov 21, 2014.

{I can't post links here, yet}

Again, this is just for people who like to hear both sides. Since the company is being judged and not the book, I thought I would post this link.

Really, it has nothing to do with the book, which is great! (I have the .pdf).

I think it would have been less confusing if they had called the new book Quests of Doom, Volume 3 to distinguish it from Quests of Doom, Volume 2. Having two distinct products, one called Quests of Doom 2 and one called Quests of Doom, Volume 2 is just inviting misunderstandings.

I agree that it is a bit confusing and took me a minute to figure it out.

One thing to remember is that there is only 2 volumes for the 5th ed books because the KS did not reach the stretch goal of all the adventures in one book. So the second book was an additional cost.

So, the Pathfinder and Sword and Wizardry Quests of Doom 1 is just one volume. The 5ed Quests of Doom has Volumes 1 and 2.

The new volume is Quests of Doom 2. And FGG expects there to be additional Quests of Doom.

Hope this helps.
