R1: Hired Hands (nimisgod judging)

After waiting on the sidewalk for several minutes with no sign of their friends, Kerrz turns to Tor. "Well, doesn't look like they're in the immediate area, and I really don't feel like chasing them all over the city. What say you and me go get us a couple of rooms at one of these inns here?"

ooc: Patlin, please pick one of the two inns present, "Old Gertrude" or "New Constantine". It makes a difference in the flow of the adventure.

Tor will walk into Old Gertrude first, look around briefly in the lobby, ten ask about the price of rooms. He will do the same thing in the other inn, and then make a decision.

Tor enters the common room of "Old Gertrude" and looks around. It's only midafternoon, but a few of the regulars are already heavily into their drink, including what appears to be a member or two of the city guard. The warrior approaches the bar and signals for the bartender, who promptly attends to the potential customer. A few basic queries reveals that rooms are readily available. Nothing fancy, but servicable and cheap. The cost is 5 silver a day, food and drink extra. Not committing to anything yet, Tor thanks the barkeep and leaves.

Tor then approaches "New Constantine" with the same intent. Walking through the front double-doors, Tor is immediately aware that this is your run-of-the-mill inn like the place across the street. He finds himself standing in a cozy foyer, well appointed and very neat. To the right, through an open doorway, he sees a dining area, with tables and chairs spread evenly throughout. To the left is a large desk with a well-groomed man standing behind it. In front is a double staircase leading up to what he presumes are the private rooms. Tor takes a breath and approaches the man behind the desk. The same routine questions inform him that this establishment prefers that reservations be made, but they just happen to have a couple of lesser rooms available for the night. The cost is 2 gold per room. Meals can be enjoyed in the dining room or, for an insigificant charge, they can be delivered to the private room. He advises Tor that if he plans on visiting the dining room then a bath and change of clothes might be in order. Tor thanks the haughty attendant and exits the establishment to rejoin Kerrz.

The fighter looks at his friend and asks, "So, which one we staying at?"

Donterrio listens raptly as Ragnikyr relates the story of their journey from Orussus to Allimon, taking notes occasionally but mainly just listening to the flow of words from the bard. "Well, that is certainly an interesting tale my friends. This Tor fellow you're travelling with sounds like quite the warrior." Donterrio makes a final note on his parchment, then puts everything back in the drawer from whence it came. The cleric then leans back in his chair and eyes the group.

"I would like to help you out, not just because one of our own travels with you," here the cleric indicates Valan, "but because you are hearty adventurers doing good deeds and trusting in your fellow man as much as yourself to complete your job. And that is something this world could use more of. Unfortunately we haven't heard a great deal about the troubles on the road between here and Ravensdale. The investigation is being handled on this end by the City Watch, and they aren't the most forthcoming group around, especially with the churches favored by adventurers and travellers. I have heard mention, however, of a possible lead in the case. Seems an out-of-town informant has put the blame for the attacks on a band of humanoid creatures operating out of the forests & foothills to the southwest of here. I don't know if the gnolls you fought were part of that band or something else entirely, but it does pose an interesting question. I'm sure the watch is doing all they can to get whatever information is available out of the gnoll you brought in."

"We had heard the investigation was being held by the wizards council, Do they command the city guard?"

After receiving his answer despite what it may be "Thank you" in the most sincere tone available at his disposal "For both the help and information, I suppose we should be on our way" looking at his companions "Though, if all goes as planned we should be back this way in a week or so, is there anything we could do for you?"
