Since the poll about the most played classes got much more interesting results than the poll for the most hated ones, I think it could be interesting to see what races are played the most.

Again, the question is what races you play somewhat regularly. Races you played only once for a short time, or that you tried but don't want to play again, don't count.

I play humans more than all other races combined. The only time I play non-humans is for one-shot type adventures. And, this is going back to 1E and 2E days when humans were definitely at a disadvantage when compared to elves, half-elves and dwarves.

My two all-time favorite characters were a dwarf and a halfling. However, any time I play a "new" class, I pretty much start with a human and then branch out if I like the class.

Unfortunately, I rarely get to be a "player", so the less usual races are still just rumors to me... but I probably would stick with the classics anyway.

Human hands down. I never liked level limits in the older editions and I liked getting the extra feat at 1st level in 3.x. I've yet to run a character in PF, but I know I would create a human if I did.

Whatever gives the most pluses.

Edit: Correction after seeing Minigiant's post - Whatever gives the most pluses, that I haven't played yet.

I don't always play a PC.
But when I do, I play a human.

Humans are the most balanced race, IMO, and they fit into every published or homebrewed campaign setting I've ever seen. I don't have to worry about my ability scores getting tampered with, and I don't have to learn any weird special abilities. With humans, I don't feel pressured to use a particular weapon or take a particular class, and I don't have to invent a creepy explanation for how my mixed-species parents actually managed to conceive me in the first place.

Humans. Always.

My first four characters (hop into the Wayback machine) in D&D were:
Human, Human, Elf Halfling.

That's a pretty decent microcosm, but by the time 2e came out, Elves had taken the lead...for sheer number of PCs I created who were. Humans became "boring" fairly quickly after I'd tried human characters for most classes. But for sheer numbers, they're still probably second most often played/created.

Overall, I think the "Top 5" most-to-least often played goes something like this:
Elves
Humans
Half-Elves
Halflings
Gnomes

Human, dwarf, elf, half-elf, halfling - in that order. IIRC, I've played a gnome and an aasimar once each and never played anything else. I mostly DM.
