Ragnarock for the Scarred Lands

Nightfall

Sage of the Scarred Lands
Yes folks it's official. As much as I rail against it, both Joseph Carriker and Andrew Bates (along with Ari) confirmed it. Scarred Lands last book comes out in November.

:p

I know I'll be there. I just wish it wasn't to mourn the loss of any new SL stuff.

My hope is, maybe down the road in 2005-2006, Scarred Lands will be reborn much like they are apparently doing for Warcraft and EQ.

Course my hope is at least EQ fails but that's just me. (Warcraft I like too much AND Mike is a great guy to condemn him for it.)

No idea about the other part of S&SS. I do hope that Ravenloft continues. I think it might. But we'll see.

This is sad indeed.

I never was a big fan of the Scarred Lands, but the first two Creature Collections were my first forays into OGL territory and my first exposure to the SL. Despite my problems with the books (particularly CCI) they still remain two solid and imaginative monster books.

I hope that the culling of the 3rd-party publishers that seems to be occuring now doesn't take anymore out of S&SS. They do top work and I hope they continue to publish d20 stuff, even if it's not in the SL.

Pants,

Doubtful they'll delete Ravenloft, Warcraft or Everquest.

Those are the only S&SS things I know. The rest, S&SS uses WW to distribute Malhavoc Press, Necromancer Games and I believe Goodman Games Dragonmech.

I'm surprised that anyone is surprised. ;)

Hmmm... lots of scarred lands stuff to pick up now. This is not the end of a setting, but the end of the glut that killed the setting. ;)

While I have no knowledge of specific product lines, I can assure you that SSS is not going away. Their partnerships (such as with Necromancer and Malhavoc) are still going strong, and--to the best of my knowledge--Ravenloft, EQ, and Warcraft are continuing as well. I'm hoping to see some new lines come out of SSS as well, and have even proposed one myself, but I have no idea if it will happen or not.

It breaks my heart that Scarred Lands is ending, but as we said in our introductory essays to Strange Lands, it just wasn't feasible to go on any further for the time being. :(

Hope to see some of you at the chat on Monday. We'll see about answering questions--on the line, on specific books, and what have you--then. Thanks for being with us.

/rant on/I'm sorry to see it end but WW has a habit of dropping stuff when they see the new bright shiny object of the moment which is now Warcraft and EQ. I'm glad though they are putting out the last book in print instead of the e book format. I'm still bitter over how they did over Trinty (ST version) when that ended. /rant off/

I glad that there is a definitive word one way or the other. It's sad to see it die, but I'd expect that the wise in the business are already analyzing the matter to figure out what went wrong and how to use the experience gained to make better products in the future.

That's just plain silly. White Wolf doesn't drop lines in favor of "new toys." They drop lines when sales and profits demand they drop them, or when the lines have reached a pre-planned or obvious ending point. (Besides, EQ and Warcraft have been out for quite some time. If they were going to drop SL to support them, it would have happened long before now.)

I'm sorry SL is ending too, but let's not toss around goofy, and patently false, accusations, shall we? We're all friends here.

I wouldn't call trying to give the Setting depth and weight "glut". But I can understand people's hatred of Faithful and Forsaken. It's just a candle though to my intense dislike/loathing of Penumbral Pentagon. :p

Ari,

I will be at that chat, come hell, high water and flying cows. And even then I'll show up.

Or wise I give you permission to revoke my Sage title.

Blind,

yeah nice to at least have this one last book

Corinth,

My hope is for a restart. (Maybe 2006 Ari?!)

But yeah folks I don't see S&SS going ANYWHERE especially handling Monte Cook AND Clark Peterson's distribution and/or print costs.

I was just stating how I felt. Nothing personal, but that how I feel. SL was one of the few things I looked forward to from WW. Now down to two. Glad Ravenloft is doing well.
