ranged AND melee attacks in same turn?

Two questions

If I am L6 ranger, who fights with a short spear and shield, my BAB for a full attack is +4/+4 (off-hand)/-1...

Let's say I drop a foe with my first two melee attacks, but there is another foe 15' away. Can I take my last attack as a ranged attack, and hurl my short spear at the foe?


2nd question.

This ranger fights with a battle axe, and a hand axe. If I decide to thow the hand axe (which resides in the off hand - what are the penalties?) To I have to transfer the weapon to my "on" hand?

Question 1: Yes, you can throw the spear with your final attack.

Question 2: You can throw with your off hand, just note that you only get 1/2 str bonus with it.

In both casses 2wf does not apply to ranged attacks, so each attack will be at an additional -2 to attack.

I couldn't say for sure. Since you get to decide on the details of your attacks as they happen, it seems like this should be doable.

EDIT: I forgot that two-weapon fighting doesn't apply to ranged attacks as was pointed out above, so there should be some extra penalties here.

Is the ranger attacking in melee and then throwing the hand axe? If all he's doing is throwing, there are no penalties - with the ambidexterity feat, both hands are potentially your "on" hand.

Um, in both cases? In the first case, he's only fighting with one weapon! TWF doesn't apply, true, but neither do the penaties for fighting wiht two weapons.

Unless you have Ambidexterity, you will have some penalty for throwing with the off-hand. For calculation, I would consider that TWF did apply, just to nix the penalty for fighting with two weapons. Other than than, I think Crothian had it nailed.

So, he is fighting with his off hand, attacking with the shield. That's the way it looks to me since he calculated his off hand attack into there.

It's under the crossbow description. Wierd place, I know. But becasue it's so out of place I can always find it.

Edit: PG 100 under Heavy Crossbow to be exact.

Thank you gentleman, my question seems answered.

Just to be sure, not I am a level 6 fighter who fights with a short spear. I use a shield, but only for protection. My BAB is +6/+1

I have no feats are relevant (ie, just Iron Will, imp init, wpn focus, weapon spec, etc, etc)

so, on my first attack, if I down the foe in front of me, I can then throw my short spear, using my +1 attack bonus? No other penalties apply, correct?
