True, or Pathfinder 1st edition (aka 3.75) ;)
Speaking of which, roll the Ranger back to PF1e when Favored Enemy was interesting, BUT, make the combat bonus apply only to bows. The Ranger should be IMO a master archer. Better than the other classes could ever be. You could make that kind of Ranger with PF1e and whew it was fun to play.

And maybe convert the Ranger Combat Styles in PF1 to 5e?

After looking at the list of ranger combat styles in that link, I began to wonder if each martial class in D&D ought to have their own combat styles. :p Why share? :p

another use for
The reason HM is "Concentration, up to one hour" is Rangers can use it to track fleeing targets (Advantage with Perception and Survival to find the target). By removing concentration and dropping it to 1 minute, the spell just becomes another boring DPR bump.
that is why you lower the damage output and keep skill bonuses.

Maybe switch the Ranger from being proficient in STR and DEX saves to DEX and CON then? ;)
with having mandatory Conc spell baked into class from 1st level, that would be a welcomed change.
For starters.
HM does not really need any special(desperate) buffs to keep it viable later on.
It just needs to ignore Conc tag.
maybe have Damage boost last for 1min and keep the skill bonus for 1Hr, or just add that you can get damage bonus certain number of times. I.E: 4 or 5 times at 1st level and +1 damage instance per 3 or 4 ranger levels.

Right. It’s a trade off. That’s the point.
