Rank your favorite films of the year [Revised and Updated]

Kai Lord

Hero
Now that the 2003 year in film is over, I thought I'd look back and try and rate the movies I've seen and comprise a list, ranking the best in order. I'm probably one of the few people entertained by such musings, but post 'em if you got 'em. :) Here's my top ten:

1. The Return of the King

*mile wide gap*

2. Seabiscuit
3. Pirates of the Carribean
4. The Hulk
5. Whale Rider
6. The Last Samurai
7. Phone Booth
8. Master and Commander
9. Matrix: Revolutions
10. Terminator 3

Biggest letdown: Matrix Reloaded.

Worst of the year: 28 Days Later (wasn't one of the seven people who saw Gigli though its hard to imagine how even that could be worse)

Haven't seen: Big Fish, Lost in Translation, Mystic River, Cold Mountain

Oh yeah!!
Pirates of the Caribbean! No doubt about that.
When I saw it I said, "not counting lotr/rotk (because it is part 3 of the best movie ever! ;) this is my favorite movie of the year."

I liked Underworld a lot, I found it very entertaining. I enjoyed it wayy more than the Matrix prt.2 (meh!)

I have to say that Daredevil was much better than I expected (and that is not saying much.)
I am tired of Affleck and I wasn't going to see it (but my sister bought it, don't ask me why, I have no idea) and it was "ok" whereas I would have figurrred "pure crap" before I saw it. ;) I didn't like the end though.

I haven't seen most of the other movies on your list.
I Love movies but somehow don't end up seeing most of the ones I want to in the theatre....(bummer) and I wanted to see most of those in the theater.

I really Liked SWAT though, that was a great movie imo.

I thought 28 days was ok, as an update of the zombie movie thing. Although if I had made it, it would have been Waayy more Gross!

Saw "Once upon a time in Mexico." It was good but not what I was expecting.
I thought "oh cool Desperado 2" and it's more like "hey really good movie. funny that it had the same character(s) as Desperado."

Usually I have trouble picking "1 thing" but for best movie So Far this year it's is an easy choice for me. Pirates!

I haven't seen that much at the movies this year, off hand I'd have to say Pirates of the Caribbean was the best although I liked X2 alot too.

Paulewaug, I'm sorry I even have to ask this, but you ARE from Washington, right? Nothing personal, I just have issues...

Well, the one that comes to mind immediately is X-Men 2 - a rare instance where the sequel is better than the original. I'm hoping Marvel can keep it up. Also has a good deal of sentimental value... *sigh*

Phone Booth was good... better than I expected it to be. And also related in part to why (sorry guy) I can't stand the name Paul anymore . Like I said, issues.

I've already said I liked Matrix: Reloaded, so I won't go into that again.

Finding Nemo was a great film, and enjoyed it even though I was the only 23 year old guy in the theater. Also has some sentimental value for me... long story.

Pirates of the Caribbean was by far and away the winner of the "this is a LOT better than I thought it would be!" award this year. I'm gonna buy this on DVD as soon as it comes out... and I have money. Hire me!

That just about rounds it up. I'd like to apologize for the weirdness in this post... I'm in a very weird mood for some reason, and I really shouldn't be. Of course, it does help to emphasize that a lot of movies I don't just remember because they're good (or bad), but because of what was going on in my life when I saw them. It's like sorting records autobiographically... heavy and depressing. If I want to remember when I saw X2... well, I won't go into that in a public forum ;).

Oh, letdowns... the biggest one for me was Daredevil. Compared to X-Men or Spiderman, I just that it was very blah... the action never held me, the story didn't hold me... at the end of the movie I was decidedly meh.

1) American Splendor

2) Holes

3) Better Luck Tomorrow

4) Lost in Translation

5) Finding Nemo

6) Whale Rider

7) May

8) All the Real Girls

9) Northfork

10) Russian Ark

Honorable mention: Matchstick Men, Owning Mahowny, Bend It Like Beckham, Seabiscuit, Spellbound, Winged Migration, Pirates of the Caribbean

Hey there LightPhoenix!
Yep, I was born, raised, and still reside in Washington state. (well I did live in Portland, OR for a little while but that was years ago and bsides the point ;))

It's ok if you don't like the name "Paul," I didn't pick it my parents did ;),
and Most of the people I have known named Paul were not people I enjoyed spending a lot off time around. :D No offense to any of the nice people that read this that may be named Paul, it just seems those of us that are not jerks are rare!

Hey I think the way we percieve a movie has a lot to do with "where we are in life." (That's why I like romantic comedies the most, regardless of what is going on I am a hopefull/hopeless romantic!)

OH!----
X2!!! I loved that movie!
Darn I was trying to think of what else came out this year....forgot that one.

So 1st is:
Pirates (otC)
2nd is "X2"

another dissapointment:
I saw 'The Order' and it was good in a "Hey look at this! This movie is about something almost completely different than we advertised it as!" way.
But I would not watch it again, so it would not make a favorite movie list
(I liked Knights Tale much much more) I did like then end though...

edit:because my typing is dreck!
