It's okay, you seem to have relatives that are half-elf/half-vampire. :D
Well then my relatives can certainly beat up your relatives. :p

Underworld was good but not as entertaining as The Rundown or anything that I listed above it.
Haven't seen Finding Nemo or American Wedding (and obviously Rundown) so aside from X2 I agree with that assessment.

I would have liked to have ranked X2 higher but the ending just didn't work for me, though I still enjoyed it and will be picking up the DVD (the white house and X-mansion sequences were spectacular.)

Pirates
Finding Nemo
X2
Matrix Reloaded

Hmm, I think that's all I've seen in the theater this year. I saw Daredevil on video, but if I counted videos I've seen, the list would be way long. But I didn't like Daredevil much anyway.

Well, numero uno was easy, while rest were more difficult...

1. LoTR: RotK. Flat out, one of the best movies I've ever watched.
2. Finding Nemo. Great movie for the entire family.
3. Pirates of the Carribean. A very unexpected surprise!
4. Master and Commander. A very well made film.
5. X-2. Fun, fun, fun.

I posted in this thread earlier this year, but now that the year is over, I'll list my revised picks, along with a list of strange and random categories.

Best movie of 2003: Return of the King

Biggest Letdown of 2003: The Hulk

Worst made-for-TV movie that somehow ended up in theaters: Timeline

Best Movie that looked like it was gonna suck but turned out great: Terminator 3

Movie that would put an end to Ben Affleck's acting career if there were any justice in the world: Gigli.

Best Western of 2003: Open Range (although it's not like there's a lot of competition)

Worst Sex Scene: Neo and Trinity in Matrix Reloaded.

Most surprisingly sexy blue-skinned woman: Mystique from X-2.

Best Surprise Ending: Tie between Matchstick Men and Terminator 3.

Best Arnold Shwarznegger moment: Arnold "talking to the hand" in the strip bar at the beginning of Terminator 3.

Best car chase: Matrix Reloaded.

Best return of a 1980s movie icon: Sloth from the Goonies playing an orc general in Return of the King. ;)

Best movie to feature a showdown I've been wanting to see since I was a kid: Freddy vs Jason

Best Arthurian-esque robotic funeral scene: Matrix Revolutions.

Best movie to feature a Japanese schoolgirl who swings a giant ball-and-chain: Kill Bill Volume 1.

  1. Finding Nemo
  2. X2
  3. Pirates of the Caribbean
  4. American Wedding
  5. Hulk
  6. Underworld
  7. Daredevil
  8. Once Upon A Time In Mexico
  9. The Animatrix
  10. S.W.A.T.
Actually, those are most the films I've seen this year. Needless to say I need to catch up on stuff like Matchstick Men and other non-action films. I usually catch those when they come to HBO/Starz/etc or pick them up on DVD. Bad year for me and going to the movies... :(
Those were the originals. I shall update (new entries in italics):
  1. Return of the King (by far, none are even close but I include the whole trilogy in my mind)
  2. Finding Nemo
  3. Master & Commander: Far Side of the World
  4. X2
  5. Kill Bill v.1
  6. Pirates of the Caribbean
  7. American Wedding
  8. Hulk
  9. Underworld
  10. Daredevil
After some thought there are some honorable mentions: The Rundown & The Animatrix. The Animatrix was better than both Reloaded & Revolutions. Revolutions had big-ass robots which was cool and some lively action scenes but the movie overall wasn't as good as any of the above. The Rundown simply shocked me by how entertaining and fun it was. Very cool.

Movies I never got a chance to see but really wanted to: Cold Mountain, The Last Samuri, Matchstick Men, Elf, Terminator 3, Seabiscuit, Holes and American Splendor.

Again, a bad year for me and going to the theater. Tis something I'll have to get better at for 2004. :)
