[Rant] Please Tell Me This Aint True

Demon Knight

First Post
Unfortunately for me, I cannot download the offical Errata for all the D&D rules. (Just accept it) I recently found out that Errata has been added to two things: Empower Spell and True Strike.

Empower Spell: Apparantly, it now multiplies ALL numerical effects by 1.5. This means that an empowered True Strike adds +30 to your next attack. Is this correct?

True Strike: Apparantly, the duration has been changed to be for your "next attack" which could be 1 round or 10 rounds from now.

Please someone confirm this for me. Thanks in advance for bearing in with my primitive hunk of metal they like to call a computer.

Well, huh.

Um, on Empower Spell, there's no mention of it in either the PHB Errata or the PHB Rules Clarifications document on the WotC site.

However, there is an erratum for True Strike. It says "Change duration to 'see text'".

The text says "next single attack roll (within the duration of the spell)".

The duration of the spell is "see text".

The text says "within the duration of the spell".

The duration is "see text".

Text: "duration of the spell".

Duration: "see text".

Text: duration.

Duration: text.

Aiee!

You must be referring to the Main D&D FAQ.

No. The Empower Feat only increases variable, numerical effects. i.e. the effect must be a number AND a variable. Since the True Strike bonus is not a variable it does not work.

Also incorrect. In the FAQ it specifically states "..,your first action the next round must be an attack or lose the benfit of this spell." A charcter must either attack during the same round (via a haste effect or a quickened true strike) or attack as the first thing they do the following round. After that the spell is gone and no benefit can be gained.

Hope that helps. :)

There is no errata for Empower Spell.

This is from the PH (2nd printing) spell description of True Strike:

"Your next single attack roll (if it is made before the end of the next round) gains a +20 insight bonus."

Originally, you couldn't actually use True Strike without Haste. With a 1 round duration, the spell would expire before your action next round.

I'm guess that what your saying about the new empower feat is....

That if I roll 5d6 for a fireball, and the result is 18....
I take that result and mutiply it by 1.5.....
thus giving me 27.

I like it, it cuts down on rolling extra dice, and dosen't cut out the extra half a dice when there is an odd number of dice rolled for the original spell effect.

But do you round up, or round down if the multiplication dosen't give a whole number?

Uh... isn't that how Empower Spell always worked?

"All variable, numeric effects of an empowered spell are increased by one-half. An empowered spell deals half again as much damage as normal..."

But do you round up, or round down if the multiplication dosen't give a whole number?

Round up? What is this 'round up' of which you speak? :)

Unless stated otherwise, everything in 3E rounds down.
