Yeah, I really enjoyed Shaolin Soccer and Forbidden City Cop, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to like Kung Fu Hustle. And Mrs. Barsoom and I are pretty sure we liked God Of Cookery, but we saw it in Cantonese with Japanese subtitles, so we're not even sure what the film we saw was CALLED. But it was very funny and very much in Chow's style, so we think that's what it was. Darn funny, whatever it was.

Yuen Wah dancing. It's genius, is what it is.

Speaking of Mr. Ebert, here's a great quote from his review of Shaolin Soccer:
Roger Ebert said:
If you are even considering going to see a movie where the players zoom 50 feet into the air and rotate freely in violation of everything Newton held sacred, then you do not want to know if I thought it was as good as "Lost in Translation."
Hee.

I'm seeing it tonight, and very much looking forward to it. My wife and I finally saw Shaolin Soccer a couple weeks ago, and we laughed ourselves hoarse. My wife is a big dorky fan of musicals, so I'm expecting her to be sobbing with laughter during this one.

Guess I just don't get it. I love Jackie Chan movies, loved Drunken Master, loved Singin' in the Rain, love the Stooges, love Evil Dead. Just don't get what was so funny in Shaolin Soccer.

To each his own. For us, the funniest seen by far was the "When I feel the music in me, I must release it or I will erupt with passion!" speech, as well as what immediately followed. (The DVD we watched had both the US release and the Chinese release, and we watched the Chinese version later, which version makes the scene about a hundred times funnier).

The wire-fu stuff was moderately amusing, but it was the musical number that left us exhausted and gasping. Which makes me think I'm gonna like the movie tonight :).

Just got back from seeing it and give it an 8, it was very funny in a hard to describe sort of way.
Its infinitely better than Shaolin Soccer (although I've only seen the US version and have heard that it was edited to death).
Being a fan of musicals won't affect wether or not you like this movie one bit.

I saw it yesterday afternoon. I gave it a 9, but I think that may be pushing it a little. Some of the humor hit me a few moments after I read it. I think the subtitles don't work well with humor where timing, tone of voice, and inflection are important which some of the lines seemed to coming from.

As much as I want to see Hong Kong action flicks without dubbing, I think this movie may have been better with dubbing to appreciate the humor better.

[Added]I guess what I'm saying is that so much of humor is delivery and timing. Reading it on the screen can kill the joke or punchline.

And, not to give anything away, don't get too into reading the subtitles, or you might miss one of the funniest bits in the movie. (I did).
