D&D 5E RaW sorcerer highest level Spells Known

First I searched for "sorcerer highest spell level" twice, 1st as default where title is unchecked resulting in an error then title only getting no match; so sorry if this subject was already discussed.

I'm looking for RaW (rule as written) highest level Spells Known for sorcerers. The following (for archival my version DnD-5e-sorcerer-highest_level_Spells_Known-170413-1) is that I came up with, as an image, this forum post WYSIWYG editor, PDF, TSV as TXT (TSV format not allowed; I made that last 2 formats after the WYSIWYG failed to display properly, would a moderator fix it?).

RAW, the highest level spell known for a 5e sorcerer would be 9th level. It's on page 100 of the PHB.

Probably not the answer you are actually looking for, but I'm not sure what you meant to ask. You might want to rephrase.

Chapter 3: Classes > Sorcerer > Spellcasting > Spells Known of 1st Level and Higher (PHB p. 101) mention what happen to ones spell list as one level. One can choose spells lower than the maximum they can get; this is the case for my highest level sorcerer; ie: he's currently single-class level (L) 9 and know 2 L1 and 3 L3. If I remade a character that was obsessed with knowing the most high level spells at the detriment of using more beneficial lower spells, how much of those spells at what level would s/he have, for each level. That's what the table I made is trying to show; you may want to have a look at the image I made until a moderator fix (hopefully) the table I made in the OP.

so he made sure to know at least one spell of each level to use all his slots then?

Interesting... those level 1-7 spells have to be chosen *very* carefully because he's going to be relying on those for most of his spellcasting! It's going to have to be something like 1 attack spell, 1 defense spell, 1 mobility spell etc...

I'm not going to make a character as in post #3 but please entertain me; if there's a way I can get to 0 spells know at the lowest levels following RaW to get even more higher level know spells I want it (I thought 1 / level was the min). I want to make sure I follow the rules and know what's the highest spells know a PC could have at each level.

I don't know if it's allowed or not, but it's a *bad idea*.... you can't use those slots anymore (unless you can put them into sorcery points? I'm not very familiar with how sorcerers work to be honest)

You can go down to 0 spells known of a specific level, nothing says that you need to keep at least one of each level known. When looking at it, if I always convert 1 of my lowest spells known into my highest spells then I end up at level 20 with:

1 5th level, 3 6th level, 3 7th level, 3 8th level, and 5 9th level spells known.

Of course, I can only cast the 6th and 7th level spells twice and the 8th and 9th level spells once. If I'm not using my 1st to 4th level spell slots for metamagic, then I will be converting all of them into 5th level spell slots to cast my 1 5th level spell multiple times since I can't convert spell points into slots higher than 5th level.

I'm not interested in doing it, I just want to know to make sure I never go beyond it. Some mistakes a GM won't think much about, just asking you to correct it when having a chance, others make him want to review your whole sheet and keep you in mind; I think a PC knowing more or higher spells than s/he should falls in the category of likely for GMs to remember you... for a bad reason.

So I posted this URL and a GM which is pretty good with the rules told me he doesn't know of a rule that require to have a minimum of 1 spell per level and therefore being able to drop to 0 (Spells Known for a certain level). Assuming that information was correct, I made this new version (170416-1). I assumed the WYSIWYG would not be displaying the table as I wanted again so included the PDF and CSV as TXT which I wouldn't otherwise.

If you would kindly confirm (or infirm, hopefully with a correction) it's indeed the highest level Spells Known.

Update 1:

When I started this post Ancalagon was the last poster, so the 1st paragraph was addressing him. cbwjm I'm glad we're coming to the same conclusion; perhaps someone else might come to the same, or I'd be glad to see a different opinion.
