Reality TV D&D!! (Ever videotape a D&D session?)

These threads always remind me of a 2e thing they started, a beginners version of AdnD. First Quest, maybe? I'm sure I have the title confused with something else.

Anyway, it came with an audio CD that gave a sneak peak at what a game may sound like -shudder- It was...not good. Had my group in hysterics when we first listened to it after years of gaming, but not-good all the same...

Have had a game audio taped for a research project as well. It was interesting, but probably only to me as the DM and the person doing research that had to listen to it.

Ah, so I'm not the only one who remembers the CD in the old First Quest boxed set. That one had endless entertainment value, not as much as the "hyper-reality" video that came with the Dragon Quest boxed set, but still very amusing.

Not the least of which was the look of terror people got the first time they heard it.

And watching them resist the urge to turn Chomp Chomp dude into a catch phrase for an entire campaign :)

I liked that CD that came with First Quest box set! Funny stuff to listen too. As for the Hyper-Reality video; was that the one where they fought a manscorpion? If it was the same video I'm thinking, the game was Dragon Strike, another AD&D beginner box set.

We have audiotaped our sessions before (rather, one member of our group has set himself up as the Group secretary, and when he doesn't keep audio tapes, he keeps campaigns journals like you WOULDN'T believe!), but for the most part it's more boring to listen to than listening to styrofoam squeak.

But a properly edited version with highlights would be not only FUN, but FUNNY.

Has anyone seen this?

Actually, one of my players is a film student and another is a photography major. They've suggested taping a session before, but the 'reality TV show' angle might really make it work. I'll run it past them and see if they want to give it a shot.

I audiotaped a session once, it was a play-test for an RPGA module and I wanted to use the tape to make appropriate edits. Despite having some excellent players (including Piratecat and KidC'thlhu) I can honestly say that an excellent gaming experience does not translate well into an audio experience. If I ever had the desire I suppose I could edit the five-hours down to about thirty minutes of highlights, but I don't think I could sit through the effort.

Got my media plaayer working at work (finally) And That was what I was thinking about.. Hehe. I still laugh every time I hear it.

Edit- Totally changed my post
