Reaping Strike/Bastard Sword

Well, thanks for that quote, but frankly I don't have much confidence in custserv responses.

Not claiming it's right, just noting that the response exists :)

I don't think Mearls' answer is supported by the text either, though it provides some insight to intent.

The problem, as BJB notes above, is that the text in the PHB leans one way on one page ("use as a two-handed weapon"), and the other way on another ("use two-handed").

How is Nash's reply unclear? [...]

Just to clarify: I didn`t mean Nash`s reply was unclear, I meant the rules concerning the use of versatile weapons.

On a sidenote: The DDI Character Builder Beta counts a Bastard Sword as a one handed weapon with respect to the fighter weapon talent, even if used in two hands.

Strange, if you see the weapon talent feature as a fighting "style" (like said in the PHB) - I would assume that wielding a Heavy Blade in one hand (plus shield or the like) or with both hands should be rather differnt fighting styles.

Well it's perfect for me. I want to create a versatile fighter who switches between one handed bastard sword, two handed bastard sword, and bastard sword and short sword. I get my +1 Att with all three of those styles.

To further muddy things, on the Character Builder issues thread at their site, WotC lists this as an error.
