Just got Netflix after a 2 year break from it and decided to check out Rebel Moon. Watched the director's cut of part 1 and 2 over a couple days, and by the end of Part 2, I was looking forward to a Part 3.
While derivative of Star Wars (itself derivative of The Hidden Fortress and Dune), Seven Samurai, Wolves of the Calla, and D&D (I mean, the pilot loots the bodies of people right after a battle, and every character has a tragic back story), by the end of the 2nd film, enough work had been done to make this universe it's own that I was fully involved. Outside of The Last Jedi, I think these two films are far and away better than any of the Disney produced Star Wars films, largely because it was a singular vision of its director, rather than something put together by committee.
Of course Snyder's love of too much slow-mo hurt the pacing far too often, but overall I'd give these a solid 4/5 (I rate the new Dune movies 5/5) and I hope that we do get another installment at some point.
