Reccomend some (non-RPG) games

If she has any interest in war games, try Memoir 44. It's a small, tactics game that I really like. Much quicker than Axis and Allies, but also much less predictable.

A 2-player strategy game I always loved. Still keep a travel set around for playing underway.

My girlfriend and I play GO a lot. Neither of us really knew how to play so we may be doing it wrong. The tricky thing about it is that there is no Western counterpart. I recommend chess. Chinese checkers is also fun.

In the vein of classics, Cribbage is also great. We had to give up Scrabble as my wife tends to get a little too competitive over it.

For a really, really simple rail game, try Ticket to Ride. Easy enough for most anyone, and a blast. Easier to explain than the crayon-based games, too.

I really want to pick this up. Hinting at Christmas time didn't work. Come to think of it, pointing out the link to fairplaygames.com where the game was on sale for 40% off at the time didn't work either.

Loony Labs has tons of games to play with pyramids. I know you can get sets of pyramids and the booklet separately. I would recommend it for people who enjoy spacial oriented games.

They also have some fun card games that are off the wall, but some of them are really more appropriate for more than 2 players. Try Aquarius, a wacky dominoes-like game. The first rule: the person with the longest hair starts.

I like Settlers of Catan but I love Starfarers of Catan! I thoroughly enjoy playing Risk, Statego, Monopoly, Life, Civilization, Trump, Chess, Chinese Checkers and Talisman. My all time favorite boargame is Axis & Allies! I love the new release of Axis & Allies for the PC as well.

It's zen-like simplicity juxtaposed with the infinite strategy make my brain hurt. If you pick it up, start by limiting the board size (I think they start people playing 9x9). And don't be fooled by false eyes.

Thanks Suzi! We just picked up our copy, and I can see the brain hurting part. The little guide we got recomended the 9*9 board, maybe that is the best way to start

As for some of the games mentioned, things like Settlers, Illuminati and Nuclear War (which are great games) might be better with more people

I love the new release of Axis & Allies for the PC as well.

Not to hijack the thread, but what new release...the only one I know of was released a while ago. Did they fix the AI?
