Recharging Question

I'd really like it if powerful monsters have specific target numbers on the re-charge rolls, so each number on a 1-6 would mean something. Of course, then they'd be limited to only six powers to be recharged. Hrm. I'm interested to see how that plays out. The all-or-nothing doesn't click that well with me, unless PCs are going to get some recharging powers that mitigates the swinginess somewhat.

If you have to roll for each separate ability then I think the whole thing is silly and a waste of time. I thought they were trying to simplify and get rid of unnecessary bookkeeping?

If one result roll of, say 6, gets all the abilities back, then yeah that's bad for the PCs. But by the same token, potentially any other roll (which is far more likely to occur) is good for the PCs. I think that's more than fair and balanced.

We've heard that an ability with recharge :5: or :6: recharges on either result while a recharge of :5: only recharges on a :5:
Where did you hear that? Or more importantly: Where did you see an example for a monster with a recharge of '5' only (stat cards don't count)?

That goes directly against the 3x and 4e notion that "higher = good".

You never see a time when rolling a 19 is better than a 20, and I highly doubt they would do it on the d6's.

I see it as more like the randomness of prismatic spells as oppossed to higher is better

Why would you even have a :5: icon--representing the face of a die--if :5: actually meant 5-6? It doesn't make any sense.

Since we've had only one officially previewed monster so far that has two rechargable abilities, and there's no point in having a "skip" if you only have one, there's insufficient evidence either way.

What might make sense is that you roll once for all abilities but you only get to recharge one of them.

Let us say you have three abilities
a) R5,6
b) R4,5,6
c) R6

if you roll a 5, you can then choose between a) and b)
if you roll a 6 you can then choose between a), b) and c)
etc.

That does make sense, actually. I think I'll try that. (I'm running a game later today.) I'll see how it goes.

Yes it does. It means 5 or higher. Saves space, especially if it recharges on a 2 (in which case you'd have to put 2,3,4,5,6).
