Recommend a Romantic Movie

First Post
I'm looking for good romantic movies that deal with 'star-crossed' lovers. Basically, couples who are madly in love, but for whatever reason, are not able to be together.

A specific example I am looking for (names have been chosen at random):

Cattie is waiting for Wulfgar. While waiting for Wulfgar, Cattie meets Drizzt. Drizzt falls in love with Cattie. Cattie falls in love with Drizzt. Cattie still loves Wulfgar. Wulfgar returns. Wulfgar still loves Cattie. Cattie loves both Drizzt and Wulfgar. Cattie chooses Wulfgar, but still loves Drizzt.

Tragic.

Any recommendations on romantic movies that fit or come close to the above mold would be greatly appreciated!

I recommend Scarface starring Al Pachino and Michelle Pfeiffer. It's the tale of a young Cuban gangster who falls in love with his boss' wife. It's a timeless romance.

The Japanese Movie "Sky High". It's the story of two people who are about to be married, but on their wedding day, the bride has her heart ripped out by a serial killer.
Okay, I know what you're thinking, that doesn't sound romantic. But in the afterlife, she has a choice of things to do, and she follows around her would be husband trying to decide.

It's a very very deep movie, which a lot of people don't get (I guess because they were expecting more of an action movie). But basically it's got what you are looking for 3 times. The 2 main characters; and later on you learn the motivations of the villain and his henchwoman, which I don't want to give away (any more than I just did).

Okay, I guess I will, to prove I'm not crazy in recommending this movie.
Anyway, the dead bride gets something like 12 days to choose what she wants to do in the afterlife. But she can't decide what to do, so like I said she follows around her fiance as he's mourning. And there's a bunch of flashbacks to when they were alive. Anyway, he plans on killing her murderer. But she finds out in the afterlife that people who kill will end up in hell, so she wants to prevent him from doing so (or from killing himself). But as a ghost, it's kinda hard.

Meanwhile, we learn about the villain's motivations. The villain was killing the women and taking their hearts because he needs them for an occult ritual to ressurect his dead wife (well, she's sort of in suspended animation). He's actually not a bad guy, he just really really loves his wife and can't bear to let her go.

Later on, the villain can't get the last heart he needs to complete the ritual, so his henchwoman, who is in love with him, cuts out her own heart so he can complete it and bring back his wife.

So like I said, what you are looking for 3 times in it. I found it to be fascinating because it largely dealt with what sort of choices you have to make for the sake of love. Granted, in real life, they aren't as extreme, but nevertheless the movie really made me think.

I mean, would you cut out your own heart so the person you love could be with the one they really loved? Or for that matter, other people's hearts to save someone you love?

Some of the people who wrote reviews there got the movie besides me, but some dwelled on the swordfights for some weird reason.

Romeo and Juliet?

Maybe the new Tristan and Isolde movie will fit your bill.

The Thornbirds; Father Ralph, a catholic priest loves Meggie Cleary. She loves him too but he is a priest - sworn to celibacy.

Serendipity - two people meet, connect but don't end up together but think of each other all the time, both decide to hunt for each other prior to their weddings. Not a bad movie.

If you like that kind of story, you should watch Casablanca.
A timeless classic and one of my favorites. One day I will get my wife to watch it with me.

Oh, and a recomendation...Moulin Rouge comes close to your setup.

Takeshi Kitano's Dolls is an amazing movie, and a few of its plot threads deal with lovers kept apart by varying factors.

Also, the Whole Wide World is a interesting tale of R.E. Howard and Novalyne Price's relationship. Mostly it's his craziness keeping them apart.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Keep them coming!

Serendipity sounds very along the lines of what I am looking for. But I would still love to hear more recommendations.
