Registration Experience (Good or bad?)

When I think about it though, I might have done things a bit differently. I would first pose a limit as to how many people I know can comfortably be signed on at a time. Maybe 300 to 500. I'll put a time limit on how long a person can be longed in. Because I've stress tested the database I know that the system will run smoothly with this amount of people on. There would be a 20 minute limit on how long you can stay signed on and a 5 minute inactive auto sign off.

Done like this you limit the number of peopel stressing all the different cgi programs in the system.

However, there are negatives. People can create macros to stay signed on "why they would i have no idea. " People would complain that because they have slower connections it is unfair. Some people may take longer to get all there info down.

I still think the pros of this system out weight hte negative s

I completed mine last night  . I would think that a gaming community as rich as Enworld would have some online database people somewhere in it whom can explain the massive task Gencon has to do to get us to buy events. As I said in the last forum, I'm frustrated (or was) with all of you, but the technology simply just doesn't exist that can make this go smoothly. You're tlaking about creating a remote database that handle 1000s of people manipulating it at one time. and you want it to remain accurate. Not even amazon, the most sophicated online database can handle this (as they sometimes have errors without rushes).

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you. While there is no way for them to make the registration system perfect, it could be made significantly better. What it would require is a significant expenditure of money, which GenCon is not willing to front. And why should they? We'll keep coming back.

ARH!!! This is about the biggest joke I've ever seen. I'm logged in, but the system says I'm not!!! Now I've hit add to cart and nothing is happening! Looks like I may not get to play anthing I want. This is the first time I've gone to GENCON and I'm not impressed with what I'm seeing so far! By the way it's 8:15 mnt time right now and the globe has been spinning for 10 mins.

Anyone ready to post a success story now that event registration has theoretically reopened? We haven't had any better luck after the database upgrade, but others may have?

Welcome to the club - online event registration has yet to function correctly...EVER, as far as I know.

I respect your opinion, but If Amazon, the largest and most successful online store in the world has not managed to fund and develop technology this sophicated, how can we expect Gencon to.

Now I know they have alot of money. Heck they made a killing of of STar Wars. But the technology that you're thinking about that could make this smother is maybe 3 or 4 years off. The big problem is accuracy, which gencon needs for these events to be perfectly planned and thats where the software faults right now. To make it accurate you have to install a couple of checks and balances codes into your program which is going to slow it up a bit.

If you're going to say that they can do it, please share with me the concept, considering this is my field I am baffled as to how they can.

But, I do think they could have did the process differently (see my earlier post) without little additional cost.
