If the players were attached to their characters than no, I would not launch the party into the slaughterhouse that is the Tomb.

If no one minded the possiblity of having to write up new characters, then sure, it's time to give the Tomb its pound(s) of flesh :D

Absolutely I would, and have every intention of doing so sometime in the future (when and if the PCs ever get to those levels...) - for both Tomb of Horrors and Return to the Tomb of Horrors.

I survived with a first level character playing solo. Up the room with the demi lich which was never described to me, I was just told the game was over now that opened that door.

Of course this was somewhere between 1980 and 1982, all I know is all the adults where watching '10' in the other room, and my step cousin offered to show me this game he was playing.

I think I did as well as I did because I did not understand any of the paradigms of DnD thinking at the time. My knowledge of fantasy at the time was largely framed around the Chronicles of Narnia and The Smurfs...

Oh, they're all quite attached to their characters. :)

I wouldn't have done it if I didn't have the highest opinion of the players and their ability to triumph over adversity. Indeed, they're exceeding my every expectation.... so far. ;)

Nobody fell for that mouth near the beginnin huh?

The problem with running S1 today is that even my players who have never seen the inside of the module already know what's in it - not specifically, but it's the archetype around which so many later dungeon tricks were built.

Still, maybe I'll con my Kalamar group into it in a few levels. They're only level 2 right now, and haven't yet seen me get nasty yet. I've managed to lure them into a false sense of security though I almost did get two of them with an Owlbear recently.

Need to get them used to danger before I send them to S1. I suspect the last group I played with could handle it at level 1 - but their DM is one of the more famous 'rat bastard' DMs from ENWorld's early days.

None of my players has ever played the original module or know what it's about. So they will find a note leading to a trip to the Tomb, if they want to take it. I'm not going to make them go in it. I just keep the adventure in my greyhawk box.

Bwahahahahaha!!!!!

Here's an odd question - do you think the tomb will be nearly as deadly with more ubiquitous access to summoning spells? :)

Actually, a gated solar has been a huge part of the party's success so far.

I made it through with my namesake (elf thief 16, 2e) and didn't die (can't say the same for members of my party though.)

Play hard. Play smart. Play to survive.

Bring a staff of ressurection.
