Reminder on AL rule regarding reprints

Pauper

That guy, who does that thing.
Now that we have the table of contents from XGtE, we can confirm that there are subclasses in XGtE that are reprinted from earlier books. A reminder from p.5 of the current FAQ:

The most current version of any rule is used -- even if it's reprinted in another book. This does not, however, affect your choice of +1.

So if you have a swashbuckler character, and thus have SCAG as your +1, you will need to follow the rules for swashbuckler in XGtE, even if you don't own the book. This does not change your +1 from SCAG to XGtE.

(Note: as per Jeremy Crawford, there is at least one change to the Swashbuckler in XGtE -- the Rakish Audacity ability is updated to reflect that a Swashbuckler cannot use its Sneak Attack condition when he has Disadvantage.)

The relevant question I believe you have the answer for, Pauper, is:

If the only feature I've taken from book X is reprinted in book Y, can I say my character is now PHB+Y instead of PHB+X?

In your example, if I don't have anything else from SCAG than my subclass Swashbuckler, can I switch my PHB+1 from SCAG to XGE?

(Don't get me wrong - I belive you will say "no". It's just that I think having it out in the open would be useful. Thanks.)

The admins have already said no to that, though the example was a character with EEPC as the +1 for spells which are reprinted in XGE.

Here's one to consider. I have a few characters that don't have a PH+1 statement. Instead they were defined by their Season (Tyranny of Dragons, Elemental Evil, Rage of Demons). I assume they remain that way even today, even if they use nothing but PH material in their makeup?

Story Origins are defunct. You may still choose a +1 as normal. Of course if your story origin was PotA and you were using stuff from the EEPG that would be your +1.

More importantly, if you have an early-season character that, to this point, hasn't taken anything outside of the PH, then you effectively haven't chosen a +1 and can select XGtE as the +1 if you choose.

(And because it came up at our table last night -- if you've received a spell scroll or other item from an adventure or from Fai Chen's that falls outside of the PH, that by itself doesn't count as your choice of +1. Your +1 is defined by the choices you make during character advancement/development.)

I'll be doing this for my very first character, my LE Paladin of Helm, solely to get access to the 'greater find steed' spell.
