Remorhaz and Immoth

Thanks for the answers.

I'm running 'Into the frozen waste' this evening and I'm worried about these two creatures.
I probably give them a spot/survival check to notice large holes in the distance and make it two young ones.
The Immoth will be reduced in caster level.

That's what I did, give them Survival / listen checks to notice the remorhaz. When they do fall into the hole, let the remorhaz swallow a horse or mule or something. The remorhaz fell quickly in my group because of an archer with Hunter's Mercy spell. A fighter lost his sword to the remorhaz though. The immoth was killed immediately by the wizard's Phantasmal Killer.. so this adventure was really too easy, and the CR's weren't all that bad.

On the other hand, the Remorhaz as ideal for your budding 7th lvl Wizard to transform into with his Polymorph spell.

Grapple & swallow!

What happened to the Immoth's little Frost buddy? When I ran the module the Frost thing ran out and got minced by the party, but while it was giving it's life for the team, the Immoth was setting up for a big attack. (As I recall, I held back a bit -- there were so many PCs and animal companions gathered in one spot to finish off the Frost beast that throwing two Freezing Spheres unseen from the darkness would have been a bit much.)

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about Phantasmal Killer happening too often, the Immoth has some pretty good saves.

I'm on record (in other threads) as saying that the Immoth is waaaaaay too powerful for his listed CR. His ice runes ability is amazingly powerful, especially with toning down of the haste spell for 3.5.

Off the top of my head, I might make the immoth use a standard action to activate an ice rune. He'd still get the advantage of having masses of prepared spells, but at least he'd only be casting them 1/round. (Unless he has the Quicken Spell feat, of course.)

Looking the immoth over- when I used 'em a while back they were very tough for CR 9 or whatever they're listed at- I'd say CR 13 is a good way to go. (Equal to caster level, plus one for quickened goodness.) Add in elemental-style DR x/- and hey presto, tough monster even at relatively high levels!
