Removing permanent marker from a battlemap

One of the gamers here at the store just mistakenly used permanent marker on his battlemap. What is the best way to remove it? Anyone know?

Rewrite upon it with a nonpermanent marker. Then erase the whole thing

Try writing over it with wet erase marker and then wiping it off. It might help fade it, but it probably won't get it all off. I also find that a weak solution of simple green helps.

Vodka. Or any other strong alcohol, surgical spirit is most effective, but I figure you're more likely to have easy access to vodka.

(As a random aside, this is also the best way to deal with superglue when you stick your fingers together)

Acetone, but you have to be really careful in that if you leave it on the mat too long or rub too hard you'll turn the mat to goo.

Alcohol didn't work. He is going to try the acetone removal when he gets home.

when none of that other stuff works, use engine degreaser in a well ventilated area (outside). Works every time.
