Replacing lycanthrope DR with Regeneration

I think that Regeneration models the unholy toughness of werecreatures better than DR X/Silver. I'm not entirely sure how much regeneration to give them, though; it's obviously more powerful than DR, but I don't know how much. I'm thinking Regen 1 for afflicted and 2 for naturals; what do you think?

I Would up that slightly to 2 and 5. I dunno, best to be play tested.

[edit: Actually that seems a bit much, maybe 2 and 3?

That's what DR is explained as, for lycanthropes. Any weapon that hits them (that isn't silver) heals so fast that it's like they never took damage at all.

I just don't think Fast Healing models what i'm thinking of as well as regeneration. For one, default Fast Healing would leave lycanthropes affected by silver and non-silver weapons equally. If only silver deals real damage to lycanthropes, that also makes it more necessary for fighting them. To offset this, I've ruled that a fist-sized piece of silver pressed into a lycanthrope's hide deals 1d6 points of damage. A lycanthrope holding silver would also take damage.

I personally like the idea of the regeneration, it definitely fits better than fast healing. There is no reason to have 2 different regen rates however. You would have only 1, with it not working on damage caused by silver (much like fire and a troll).

A rough guide I would use would be converting 3 points of DR/Silver to 1 point of regen(silver). Therefore, if the werewolf would have DR 10/silver, this would convert to regen 3(silver)

But...that would give 2 different regen rates, too, wouldn't it? One for afflicted and one for naturals, just like I had. Regen of 1 and 3 might be better than 1 and 2, but I'm really not sure as to the in-game value of regen vs. DR. DR's easier to run, that's for sure.

Maybe I'm reading this too literally... but what's unholy about werecreatures? Some of them are good, some of them are evil. Their were-ness has nothing to do with holy or unholy.

DR and regen are similarly powerful, but they change the dynamic of a fight. A creature with regen can still be pummled unconscious. All you need is a buddy to keep smacking the thing while it's down so you can get some of whatever will kill it. DR makes it harder to deal with up front -- it's harder to do damage in the first place, but when it's down it's down. It just depends on which sort of situation you want the combat to be.

Then again, if you want to be mean, go ahead and give them regen and DR. A silver weapon will still be just as effective, but if you don't have one, watch out. Up the CR by 1.
