The day 3.5 becomes availible I'll curse it, swear at it, invent new vulgar words to call it, and most of all...*sigh* ..I'll buy it.:(

Because my players don't want to. Majority rules, in my group. Why don't they want to? They don't want to because they have no intention of buying new books this early in the game. There is the SRD, I suggested. "Huh?" was their response. Why sit around with a pile of ugly print-outs when they have perfectly good 3.0 books?

The exact same situation with my group. None of my players wants to spend the money (or can afford to spend the money) when their current books work just fine. We'll just vote on the changes we like and house rule them into my home brew campaign.

Arcana Unearthed

I am planning on upgrading my campaign to Arcana Unearthed (thus creating a Mindshadows - Arcana Unearthed hybrid) rather than using 3.5

3.5 just doesn't excite me as much as AU does.

1. No need to waste money on more books.
2. Don't want to create more work for myself by updating 3rd party stuff I've already bought to 3.5.
3. 3.5 is even farther away from what I like in D&D than 3.0.

There are many changes I don't like. If the new books will need just as many house rules as the old books, why bother spending the money on them?

If I had unlimited money I'd buy them, but if the choice is between a flawed 3.5 book and another book with new and interesting content, I'll spend my money on the latter. I can take all the changes I do like (the classes, mostly) from the SRD and add them to my house rules.

Ooo, yes.

For me, the question isn't "should I buy the 3.5 PH?" It's "should I buy the 3.5 PH or Mindshadows and Testament. It's "Should I buy the 3.5 DMG or the new Dragonlance setting book."

I'm undecided. From what I've seen so far, it looks like there will just be a different set of flawed rules to get my head around - and I'm wondering whether I'm just to lazy to bother.

If they'd fixed the system completely, with a version 4.0, I'd have been happier. This all seems a bit half-arsed to me, though.

Maybe I'll wait another 10 years until 4.0 comes out. I missed 2nd ed completely - I was playing 1e well past its expiration date.

There again, I like new books. They're always exciting, and they smell nice...:)

And AU might be worth a look. I like Monte's stuff.

Money. The inexpensive ways to get the books I'm not really aware of. I wanted to save my cash for Arcana Unearthed.

Also, even if I managed to get the books, everyone in my group can't afford to get them. Some of our 3.0 libraries are just getting respectable.

So, not enough cash for three books. But just enough for AU! :D

First, I preordered the all 3.5 books. I will not going to convert my campaigns though - my players are against it, and the more I knew about the changes, the more I was against it as well. My campaigns are currently running well and everyone has fun, so why change? I got houserules for all my problem cases, I don't care about playing by "official rules", and my playstyle greatly differs from the playstyle 3.5E was apparently - when I consider what the designers said and explained - was built for.
