Retrieving Scrolls and Quick Draw

As you and others point out, there are common magic items that allow people to get scrolls as a free action (HHH) and nonmagical FR items (masterwork bandolier).

Just for clarification, the bandolier and masterwork bandolier do not state that retrieving items from them are done so as a free action. Only the potion belt and masterwork potion belt say that.

You proponants of this rule act as if a Spell casters only option in a moments notice is to Quick Draw a scroll.

Well masters of the obvious ..... They have spells that they can cast in moments notice... Some times they are big ass kicking spells that dwarf what a simple fighter could do with his quick drawn full attack.

What else do you want to give spell casters beside instant unlimited spells?

I will keep saying it again and again.... Balance...Balance... Balance...

Generally to quick draw a weapon I'd imagine the process to be pretty rough on the object quick drawn. Probably why it should only be applied to weapons that have hardness. I can just see the gnome wizard quick drawing his scroll now:

"I quick draw my scroll of fireball!"
*sound of paper tearing*
"Crap."

Being a wizard I wouldn't want to be too rough on my wands either. One good *snap* and the party hears the wizard yell:

"Bend over and kiss it cuz her comes 42 charges of fireballs!!!"

Well, mayhaps not that literal, but I'd definately keep this in mind before house ruling it. A caster trully desiring a character with this ability in the forefront I have no objections because it's pretty neat but I wil likely require Lightning Reflexes & the Quick Draw Feats, including the properly crafted harness/bandolier.

Depends upon the style of Magic in your game I suppose. Me? I try to treat magical stuff with a wee bit more respect thank you. ;) Never know what it could do to ya. :D

Every melee character in my campaign has this feat. I haven't seen a melee character yet who hasn't, at some point, taken this feat.

And in my campaign I've never seen one take it. We have different experiences I guess. I will admit that none of my melee characters uses bows very often or reach weapons. I can see a more of a use for this feat when building a character that uses these weapons.

Fisk, do you even understand what Quickdraw does? First you didn't think that someone could draw a sword and attack with it in one round when you can. Quickdrawing a scrolll or wand isn't a Quickened spell. It just means that instead of taking a move equivalent action to get the wand or scroll, it's a free action, it still takes a normal action to activate. How is that "instant unlimited spells"?

The only problem with this is, there are magical and non-magical items that would let you do the same thing.

As you said, I wouldn't let anyone do this normally, but if they tell me that they want to make a little holster for a wand and they have the quickdraw feat, then I'd stretch the rule to allow it.

Anyway, again, if a WIZARD wanted to take quickdraw instead of silent spell, quicken spell, craft wonderous items, etc then he's just hurt himself more than me not letting him quickdraw a wand.
