Retro-Engineering 3E Modules For 1E?

The One Ring

I am a 1E gronard. I'd consider buying a few of those 3.0 adventures that came out at beginning of 3E life (Sunless Citadel, Forge of Fury, etc...) but only with the stipulation that I could retro-engineer them for 1E. Does anyone know if there are guidlines for this or if such conversions have already been done?

Also, how hard would it be to convert said modules over to Castles & Crusades?

Simple. For 1E too. Usually its just a matter of ignoring the 3E wierd classes/PrC's, turn feats into creature types of powers. AC is easy if they wear armor, or just make it what you want it to be, etc... Pretty darn easy once you get it all down.

The biggest issue I would see would be pacing. 3E tended to run a great deal slower than 1E or 2E did. Adventures tended to feature less combat, because each took more game time. If you are converting to 1E, think about adding more combats. Also, 3E tended to involve combats against single or low numbers of monsters often. 1E/2E tends to do better with multiple enemies. Last of all, 3E is really stingy about handing out magic items compared to 1E/2E.

There is a good thread on the Goodman Games DCC forum dedicated to converting 3.5 adventures to C&C- Nothing earth shattering, just a good dose of common sense.

LINKY

P.S There is a gazillion better modules available than the original 3.0 releases :D

I think some of the later 3.5 modules in Dungeon are better than in the store modules. The Age of Worms series is really good.

It should be easy to convert to C&C just ignore the feats and stuff.

As to retro fitting to 1e check the old 2e to 3e conversion .pdf on the Wizards site. It should help you convert backwards to 1e. I know it says 2e but it should be real helpful.
