Revisiting Bond - What are the five best (and worst) 007 films?

What are your five favorite Bond films?

Like like Connery, Craig, and Lazenby the best. Top films for me:

Dr. No
From Russia with Love
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Casino Royale
Skyfall

Goldfinger & Thunderball come close to cracking the top 5. I dislike silly, over-the-top Bonds (relatively speaking), so I'm really happy with the Daniel Craig reboot.

It's interesting to see how spread out the voting is so far. I know that's likely, with each person making five unweighted votes, but it seems that there is no universally-disliked Bond movie.

A View to a Kill seemed overwrought.
The best thing about that movie is the Duran Duran video for the theme song.

Wow. As of this moment, every movie has between 25 and 45 votes, with most in the 25-30 range. That's amazingly close for such a disparate batch of films.

My favorites are:
1. Casino Royale
2. Goldfinger
3. You Only Live Twice
4. Skyfall
5. Toss-up between 'Moonraker' (cheesy, but fondly remembered because it's IN SPACE!) and 'The Spy who loved me' (my first Bond movie).

Honorary mention goes to 'Never say Never' which was the first time I've seen Sean Connery as Bond.

The ones I remember as exceptionally bad ones are 'Die Another Day' (utterly stupid CGI-fest with an overdose of blatant product placement) and 'Quantum of Solace' (just a string of irrelevant video-gamey action sequences).

Yeah, a surprising spread. I would have thought films like Octopussy and Never Say Never Again would be way down the ranks.

Anyhow, this topic has inspired me to gradually work my way back through the films. I just watched Dr No and enjoyed it quite a bit. Some 60s silliness, but I must say that I miss films that are less frenetic and focus more on drama, intrigue and plot than action and gizmos.

In no particular order: Live and Let Die, Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger and The Spy Who Loved Me.

Least Favorite: The last four and Moonraker. Not that the were horrible I just don't like Daniel Craig as Bond, he goes beyond the suave arrogance of the character into straight douchery at times. And while I applauded Dame Judy as M the first time, she became more and more annoying as the movies went on. And Moonraker was just bad, no excuses, just bad.

OK, this explains the even numbers - they're wrong. I don't know why they read as they read, but if you click on the votes then you get not only far fewer, but completely different. Here are the votes:

20 Goldfinger
16 Casino Royale
14 Skyfall
11 Dr No
10 From Russia With Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service
8 Goldeneye
6 You Only Live Twice, Spy Who Loved Me
5 Live and Let Die
4 Diamonds are Forever, Man With the Golden Gun, For Your Eyes Only, Living Daylights
3 A View to a Kill, Quantum of Solace
2 Thunderball, Moonraker, The World is not Enough
1 Never Say Never Again, License to Kill, Tomorrow Never Dies, Die Another Day
0 Octopussy

No, they're correct. Unregistered visitors can vote, but when you click through to the details you only see registered usernames listed.

That makes it even more interesting because the spread is so different between registered and unregistered users. Compare Goldfinger and Octopussy. 20-0 among registered users, 28-25 among unregistered. That can't be right.

You think someone is stuffing the ballot box for Octopussy? Why would anyone bother?
