rogue, warlock, assassin (Avenger)

I am sad that I've joined this conversation too late.

Factotum is a better Rogue than a Rogue. For all the reasons people have said.

The only thing I could add is to make a better Rogue than a Straight Factotum would be to be a Factotum//Wizard.

Crap, @Empirate already said that.

Then, I simply concur with these brilliant individuals.

D'awww, don't be sad. Being late doesn't make you any less brilliant! :)

Factotum / Wizard is the best IYO? Most gamers believe the Wizard to be the top tier class. I have really never optimized a wizard. I usually build for flavor, history of backround, and this influences prestige class choices, spell selection, feats and skills.

If for some reason I wanted to compete with our game groups power builders & and wanted to build the strongest build possible, I mean a PC that was just awesomeness in disguise would you all give a hand in suggestions. My only interest is to, for the first time, have a PC that is at least arguably the parties badass!

The above request for a power gamers delight build is not the skill monkey I am currently working on. I have been voted party healer twice & now rogue so next PC (after current) is going to be spell caster, its going to be another gestalt campaign but the twist is, its going to be an evil campaign, probably starting at 8th or 10 th level.

Wizard makes a great Skillmonkey. Some practical spells are...

-Knock Replaces Open Lock skill.
-Mage Hand, Open/Close, Hold Portal, Unseen Servant supplements, replaces or out-do's Slight of Hand.
-Detect Poison, Detect Magic, Alarm, Detect Secret Doors all do things that spot, search and listen can't do.
-Obscuring Mist enhances Hide.
-Comprehend Languages replaces any skillpoints invested into language.
-Identify replaces Appraise in many cases.
-Charm Person replaces Diplomacy.
-Disguise Self replaces Disguise skill.
-Animate Rope replaces Use Rope.
-Jump replaces Jump skill.
-Reduce Person replaces many Escape Artist checks.

...And that's just looking at level 0 and level 1 spells from the Player's Handbook. So, spells a Wizard could cast at level 1. The list continues to increase as you level up or look at Spell Compendium.

In this build Im not allowed to pick any of the major top teir classes Wiz Psion Cleric, but Warlock is considered lowly power wise so thats allowed. Im not "stepping on other pc's toes" My niche for this PC is to be the party gumshoe, private dick, inquisitor, rogue, info gatherer, sneak, spy, scout, recon, under ground, city and outdoors, and most importantly protecting party from others like myself / taking out enemy spell casters or.

player had dungeonscape so I have now read the factotum. The class features "inspiration" is unique, and how many things they can shore up with their Int mod. Spells, ability to turn, great skills, a very good well rounded class.

I wonder if a big or small dip into Archivist would meld well with the Factotum.IMO strictly from a flavor pov I think, yes - from a mechanic pov? whats your thoughts?

Oohh.... ok.

Beguiler?

Archivist is also Tier 1. If your DM doesn't know that, groovy for you.

Archivist, IMHO, is an excellent, excellent class. Stacked with Factotum's ability to make boosted skill checks (like those knowledge checks in the Archivist's class abilities), plus Knowledge Devotion feat, equals incredibly powerful. Minus the Knowledge Devotion Feat, equals simply Superbly Powerful.

But not very skillmonkey, unless Archivist's Knowledge check abilities can fit your people's concept of "skill" even though it's more "Buff".

yea I didnt catch that the Archivist is a max spell progression class thus tier 1, BUT the DM did not bane class he mentioned the big 3 and their prestige classes...I can probably squeeze this one buy him.

Edit, After reading both the Factotum and Archivist these two are def meant for eachother.
