Rogues and traps ??

First Post
Hi all,

I remember reading somewhere that Rogues, in 3.5, were able to detect traps without the player saying "I am searching for traps every 5'". I believe they were automatically enabled to receive a search check when within 5' of a trap. When reading the rogue in the v 3.5 Players Handbook, I could not find any reference of that ability.

Does anyone know where I heard that rule?? Or better yet, does someone have a pg. number reference.

Maybe I'm on crack!

From memory, that was speculation as to what the mechanics of "Trapsense" might be, before the books were released.

It turned out that Trapsense was basically a renaming of one of the old functions of Uncanny Dodge, giving a bonus to Reflex saves against traps.

So no, no elfiness for the rogues.

I'm somewhat in the same boat -- I remember hearing that assertion before 3.5 came out, but it's nowhere in the 3.5 SRD. My top theory is that some early reporter saw the 1st level ability newly listed as "Trap Sense" (I think) and incorrectly inferred what that meant.

Edit: Okay, so now Hyp beat me by a bit.

Thanks guys... I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going crazy.

That would have been good to have the DM roll behind the screen whenever a rogue came near a trap. It makes more sense than the rouge checking every 5' feet :(
