Rogues are useless!

I don't understand why this is a problem.

Rogues are not monks. They are not masters of unarmed combat. What exactly do you perceive to be the problem here?

Edit: On second thought, upon remembering the title of the topic (Rogues are useless!), never mind. This does seem to be nothing but troll-fodder. Rogues are useless because they use weapons? Riiiiiiiiiiiiight....

2nd Edit: And oh yeah - Eladrin rogues completely dominate in 4E. That's no lie.

Here's a thought.

If you think I'm trolling, don't reply to the thread!

OMG! It can't be as easy as that, right? Right?

The fact remains that every other class can use their powers, even wizards and warlocks and clerics, without any requirement for any type of external tool. Rogues are the only class that requires a tool to use 99% of their powers. So without that tool, rogues are useless.

I don't see what's so shocking about thinking that's unfair and unbalanced. And if you can't imagine a gazillion situations in which a rogue would not have access to a weapon, then you're in the wrong hobby.

But, nevermind. I've found my solution and I'm happy with it. Find someone else to insult.

I think just about all ranger powers require a) wielding two weapons or b) wielding a ranged weapon... So this situation is not unique to the rogue.

I don't think you're trolling, and I understand your argument (just about every Rogue exploit specifically requires either a light blade, crossbow, sling, or other specific weapon).

p. 56 does say "weapon" powers can be used unarmed, but the rule in 4e is that specific exceptions trump general rules, therefore most Rogue exploits do require a weapon of some kind as they don't only say "weapon" but they have a specific weapon requirement (compare to most Fighter exploits).

However, if there are a "gazillion" situations in which a Rogue may find himself unarmed, I can think of a gazillion+1 ways in which a crafty Rogue would be able to beg, bluff, or steal his way into being armed again. And anyone who can't imagine those solutions is probably in the wrong hobby. :) Don't forget that they have utility exploits to do exactly those kinds of weaponless things.

You're not trolling, you're just misunderstanding, overreacting and posting your knee-jerk response as a rant. It happens a lot around here, apparently. :)

Yeah, so far, Rogues are the real butt-kickers in 4e. They deal so much damage, it should be illegal. My advice to you: Make sure you don't lose your weapon. Or, if you do, use your thievery skill to steal someone else's weapon.

Don't get disarmed.
