Rogues get 5/level

Just my guess on the breakdown.

That's the same breakdown I see happening. 3 times hit dice for 1st level characters, then an above average result (5 from a d6 for the Rogue) for the hit points received each level.

The only issue I have with the 4,5,6,7,8 progression is then the difference in HP between warriors and the other classes are minor at best. You will notice it in the first few levels but as you advance that difference will mean less and less.

example.

Wiazrd con 12

4 x 2 + con =20 HP level 1
4 HP per level: 9 x 4 =56 hp level 10

Warrior con 16

10 x 2 + con =32 HP level 1
7 HP per level 9 x 7 = 95 HP level 10

Now this is not even double the hitpoints the squishy wizard has. Other classes would fall between these two of course but it feels a little off with the mage having so many. To put it in older terms the mage is getting max HP while the fighter is pulling 70 percent. If they wanted to keep the spread in class HP the same they could have done max HP every level or even half and been ok the issue is when you try some odd middle point to split the dice correctly.

it is 10+2*(max d6+con modifier)

about double hp fighter to wizard seems about right... maybe 3/level would be better... (total of 47hp) but if hp are spread too much then a hit which barely scratches the fighter outright kills the wizard... this might be no problem with melee attacks, but area of effect spells are problematic...

Didn't I already address this in a thread a couple weeks ago? ;)

My prediction from that thread is:

Controllers: 4 hp/level
Strikers/Leaders: 5 hp/level
Defenders: 6 hp/level

I stand by that prediction. But for starting HP, I'm not sure... The Rogue reveal with the Con score added in kind of threw me. :)

I think the 6hp/level is too low. I agree with some of the others arrays that are predicting more like 8hp/level for you D10 classes. Might even see 10/level for the barbarians when they come out!

I think that the con modifier is still used per level, but not the whole con score as it is in the rouge entry. The con modifier applies to all classes the same way so there is no need to constatnly re-write it for every class. In addition maybe other classes get a differet con modifier per level, maybe X hp + 2x con for first level, or 1.5 x con etc.

The Rogue preview says that Con only affects starting hp and healing surges. HP per level is fixed.

You should expect the difference in HP to be less than it was in 3e.

The defender classes like the Fighter are likely to get more Healing surges/Second Winds and this amounts indirectly to an effect similar to a higher Hit point score. Especially so if these abilities refreshes X % of your HP will this leave the character being able to recover from a lot more damage than the other classes without expending party resources.

Another factor, in this is that you have 30 levels now and the more that you make the HP/level disparate the more that change grows. An example, going by someones example of d4 = 3 and d12 = 10, 30th level wizard has ~90 and a 30th level barbarian has ~300? I think that is too crazy of a difference. More likely 30th level wizard gets ~120 and 30th level barbarian gets ~180 or ~210.
