RotK closure

Shadowdancer

First Post
When RotK opened back in December, my best friend and I went to see the very first showing at our local cinema. Tomorrow night (Thurs.), we are going to the last showing at our local cinema. The movie won't be showing here after Thursday.

I have mixed emotions. In fact, I'm feeling a little verklempt. Talk among yourselves. I'll give you a topic: Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit" was neither blithe nor spiritual. Discuss.

After seeing FOTR six times in the first run theaters, months after its release I caught it one last time at a theatre pub. I was a little down about saying goodbye to the big screen experience for one of the greatest films of all time (2nd only to ROTK).

But then came the EE theatrical rerelease a year and a half later. :) Enjoy watching ROTK again, but it'll be back....

RotK, in my opinion, was one for the fans. The super-sized ending was testimony to that. My wife -- not a real fan of sci-fi/fantasy -- liked it but didn't think it was all that great. I dug it, even though to me the EE versions are the "true" versions of the movies.

I'm kind of glad it's over in a way. All good stories should have a beginning, a middle, and an end.

And I'm not smart enought to discuss Noel Coward, though I appriciate his inclusion.

IMO it will not be over until RotK EE DVD is out. I agree the the EE's are the true versions of the movies. There is a rumor that New Line will be doing another Triolgy day this summer, this time with all extended edtions.

I don't consider it's over until the fat lady... or at least the fat hairy kiwi man sings. Ever since I first saw it in theaters, I've been looking forward to the EE on DVD later this year.

It wouldn't surprise me if New Line did a Trilogy Day (for a few weeks at a time) every few years. Easy way to make a quick 10 or 20 million, I suspect.

I'd love to see it happen, too.
