Hm...

If I'm not mistaken, Rodney basically says (or implies) powers are fiddly (ref vs. AC), gamist (keywords and conditions), bland (damage + condition), and multiply like tribbles.

Something I realized in 2009. ;)

Its good to know they are no longer the go-to method of assigning abilities, but they will be there via feats and class abilities.

I was not impressed by the breast beating over powers. Be proud of what you have accomplished and promise us a better future: do not apologize for the good stuff and lead me to believe that the future will be equally halfhearted. The Rule of Three is part of the official Fourth Edition site: let the critics of the Fourth Edition criticize powers.

At least it was an honest article. :.-(

Treating every edition in retrospect each had strengths and weaknesses. Dont get me wrong, I think 4e did a number of things right, but it also did a number of things wrong.

This article is good because I think the guys at WOTC are acknowledging this as well and this bodes well for 5e development.

Isn't that what matters?

Frankly, I think they went out of their way to be nice to the power system.

The ability to honestly criticize oneself is important in any field. Let's hope the 5e designers are legitimately doing so.

I thought the article was a reasonable and accurate analysis of powers. It didn't say anything we haven't seen a dozen times elsewhere, but it is useful for WotC to articulate what is obvious to those of us who obsess about these things.

I appreciate the open information sharing that they appear to be doing in the Rule of Three column. I appreciate the tone too, but then again I haven't gone out of my way to find how he might be critisizing powers (which I don't think he was). If I really, really want to think that, I'm sure I'll find a way to interpret the words accordingly.

I think it also confirms all the internet worry about the skill system is vastly premature. It seems in a very big state of flux. Standby for for sever al different versions in the playtest IMO
