How often do you correct a DM? Just wondering how many stop their DM in the game and pull out a book to correct something, or point out certain items in the game.

I as one of 3 dm's have voted for our resident rules lawyer...
I was being kind to myself and the others by saying once every hour...
there are times were he is correcting us every other word and then nothing for an hour or more...
It gets worse his girlfriend has started to play also and she too is a rule lawyer or jobs as DMs just got worse...

i consider myself a rules lawyer who uses his powers for Good. :)

if a DM makes a rules mistake that i notice, i might say something like, "i don't think that's the way it is in the books. i think it goes like this..."

usually, the DM's response is one of two things:

1) "oh ok, i didn't know that. let's do it by the book."

2) "i know that's what the book says. i'm doing it differently."

in either case, i have nothing further to say and i always accept the DM's decision. i am perfectly fine playing under house rules.

There's no answer that maps closely enough to "Whenever it's necessary" for my tastes, so I've not answered. This post sums up my position pretty well though.

When I DM I do my best to know the rules for my players' sakes, and I expect the same out of anyone DMing while I play. It doesn't mean I have to be a jerk about it, but when errors are made nobody learns unless you point them out and correct them.

Depends on the DM;

Two of my DMs consult me before they consult the rulebook.

The third DM and I have issues on initiative and AoO's all the time. And then there's usually the "big mistake I'll mention after the session" correction.

I try to use my powers for Good... I just wonder sometimes how good I am at it.:D

Well it depends, I have to admit I had done some stupid stuff too, most people would not trust me when it comes to rules, but then again...I only know just a little just to save my sorry little hide if a rule lawyer can manage to live through that then they are set.

My friend thinks everytime I do something wrong that is not in the rules he always has to ruin some plan I had set for reason, and he is a player not a DM he tends to suck up to the DM more then anyone who thinks he just the best rulelawyer yet, he said he was helping me, but then again he helps the DM more then he helps me when it comes it becomes difficult by what the hell he was thinking when he disagrees on actions I do for a good reason he has to make such an issue about it when he explains to the DM "This rules said..." Bla Bla Bla sometimes that it got me killed thats not the right thing to do to another player.

Where's the -I don't correct the DM because the DM is doing me a favor by spending his time and energy to run a game for me and that would be rude - option?
