Run, do not walk and go find Versus

Just come from seeing "Versus" with Piratecat, Chronosome and others. Holy firking snit is that a fine film. Gore, martial arts, guns, zombies, vampires, samurais and more, all in one non-stop, hilarious bloody roller coaster.

It will be a hard film to find. Made in 2000, it's only now seeing limited release in US theatres. Art houses may be showing it, and I think it's due for video release soon. Get out there and find it. This movie is the bastard love child of Sam Raimi, Quentin Tarantino and Akira Kurosawa, and more fun than a barrel of zombie samurai monkeys.

I thought this movie looked like a film done by a first year film student who was in love with John Woo and Hype Williams way too much.

I thought it sucked. Not even in a cool cheezy b-movie suck....which is still cool and watchable.

But again. Just my humble opinion. It could be the cup of tea for others.

Go see Versus. It's a Japanese kung fu action comedy zombie movie! Sorry Chain Lightning, but holy crap, what a great movie.

I also went to go see it with Chronosome last night. If you don't like Army of Darkness, you won't like this; it's a low-budget movie from Japan about a forest where people don't stay dead, and what happens when a bunch of gangsters realize that they shouldn't have been throwing their victims there. It's got lots of zombies, and tons of gore, and plays with the classic movie stereotypes in a way that made the entire audience laugh more than a dozen times. Its tongue was planted firmly in its cheek, and it delighted in exploiting any number of classic action/horror movie tropes.

And it so, so rocked.

It may be hard to find; it's just getting its US release now, and will mostly be in small theaters or art houses. BUT SEE IT! This is a Feng Shui/d20 Modern/All Flesh Must Be Eaten game on film, and it's a tremendous amount of fun.

I'll agree to disagree on this one, Chain. I thought it nailed the "Cheezy B-movie" feel exactly, and that's nine tenths of why it was cool. They action stuff has all been done before, but was well don't here, but it was the very spoofing of the genre, all the genres, that made it fun.

Oh well. I still say one undead thumb way up.

darn you!

I love Resident Evil(the Movie never played the game), Army of Darkness, All Flesh Must be Eaten, 28 Days Later, etc.
And you are so convincing about how good it is I just bought
"Versus" and "Down to Hell" as a 'two pack' off of e-bay.
Now I can't waite for them to arrive!!!!!!
mmmm...zombies! tasty....

(tongue in cheek, but sometimes in a zombie movie the question is.."Who's tongue and who's cheek?")

ok yes that is gross...hehe

'Versus' only being released now in the states?

You ARE talking about this movie here:
