"Good luck, Lothar." says Toler, as he vaults over the palasade wall and into the night.

At this point, Boog is more than 35 feet away from Beamer. I don't know if the mindlink would continue to work.

Once the bond is formed, it works over any distance (although not from one plane to another).
Upon receiving Beamer's missive, Boog sprinted along the the west wall, hoping to catch a glimpse of Toler so that he could use one of his Powers on him.[sblock=OoC: ]Boog will double move to A3. Is there a platform there, in the northwest corner? If so, Boog will mount it and look over the wall for Toler. If he sees him, he'll use Brainlock. If there is no platform, or if it's obvious that visibility is so poor that he couldn't see Toler (for example, if he rounds the corner and finds that it's too dark to even see Beamer on the south side of the wall), he'll continue movement along the north wall toward Beamer and the central platform.[/sblock]

Beamer stands and climbs the platform. He directs Louie to continue following Toler. He says loudly enough for everyone to hear, "Give me a boost and I can light him up."

If Banion could hear the earlier telepathic message, he heads to the north wall. If not then he heads to the north wall now.

OOC: Probably should have gone with the glitterdust. Oh well. :(

Actually, once the telepathic bond is forged, it works over any distance, so you all know what's going on.

Boog sprints down the wall and mounts the platform in the NW corner of the palasade. The night is cloudy and visibility is quite poor away from the torch that lights the gate. The night is still, though, with minimal wind and no precipitation. Boog is unable to actually see the fleeing assassin, though he can hear some noises. Boog can clear the wall with a DC 10 jump check. He then would fall nearly 10 feet. He would need a jump check of 15 to avoid taking 1d6 of dmg from the fall.

Beamer is about 3 feet tall. He is able to reach up and grab the top fo the wall. He would then have to make a climb check of DC15 in order to pull himself up to the top and see over.

It takes Juliana 3 rounds to close the gate with the winch.

OOC: If I understand the sequence of events correctly, Banion would head to the platform while Beamer was falling down and thus arrive there before Beamer stands up and climbs up. Regardless, the plan below occurs as quickly as possible.

IC: Banion gets down on his hands and knees. Beamer steps up on his back and casts glitterdust at the spot Louie says Toler occupies. As soon as the spell goes off, Beamer commands Louie to return.

OOC: Range of glitterdust is 140'. Louie will probably be in the area of effect of the glitterdust. Louie's save bonus is +6. Glitterdust DC 15. Even if blinded he should be fine due to his blindsense.

Boog could hear the traitorous assassin, but he couldn't see him. The elan listened to the receeding footsteps in frustration; if he could only see the man, he could stop him in his tracks.[sblock=OoC: ]Boog will stand at the top of the platform and wait. If someone manages to slow or stop the man, or even just make him visible in the dark, Boog will use Brainlock. Otherwise, he will simply stand and curse the darkness.[/sblock]

Now that the immediate threat from the wolves is over, and while his companions are chasing the assassins, Eusebius goes immediately to Bill's side, to see if there is anything he can do for the fallen innkeeper. If he finds that the poor man is dead, or once he has stabilized him with a minor spell of healing, he rushes through the gate after the cowardly villains who did this.

[sblock=OOC]Cast CMW on Bill if he's not yet dead.

My posting is going to be very erratic for the next three days. NPC Eusebius if you need to. He will pursue the villains but he will take time, when he catches up, to use the CLW wand on himself and to cast Shield of Faith on himself.[/sblock]

Familiars: Empathic Link (Su): The master has an empathic link with his familiar out to a distance of up to 1 mile. The master cannot see through the familiar’s eyes, but they can communicate empathically. Because of the limited nature of the link, only general emotional content can be communicated

Familiars are often problematic in this regard. While Louie could swoop out and find the fleeing assassin, I don't think 'general emotional content' would include whereabouts precise enough to enable the effective casting of glitterdust. However, it seems only natural that there would be some chance of success. A listen check of 5 is required to hear Toler running when he starts. It takes a full round for Beamer to get up to the top off the wall, on banions's back. Toler can't see in the dark, so let's say he only moves 30 feet/round, picking his way into the trees. So if Beamer can make his listen check at 10 over the minimum (which would be 8), he can hear pretty close to where Toler is. So he should make a listen check at DC 18. Success! Thus Beamer tags Toler with his glitterdust. Boog, then, can see him, an cast mind lock.

Toler gets two will saves, vs glitterdust and brainlock. Unfortunately for you, he makes both. the Glitterdust description doesn't state this directly, but I'll assume you can now see him in the dark for the duration of the spell.

Toler, in turn, increases his speed, dashing East towards the Silverwood, which abutts the small fort. I'll require a Balance check of DC 12 to avoid tripping on bushes and rutts in the dark if he's running. He makes it. Thus he moves 120 feet, and disapears into the scattered trees and bushes to the East. He's now approximately 150 feet away from Beamer, and about 200 feet away from Boog. Even with the glitterdust, he is difficult to see through the trees. It is currently late november, and there are no leaves left on the trees. Most of the trees are deciduous, so the PCs still have a chance of spotting him. Spot check DC20, +1/10 feet -40 for glitterdust spell...OK. I guess both PCs can still see him at this point.

Eusebius checks Bill's body. He has no life left in him. The monk/cleric can see that the thrust went directly into his heart. Either Toler was lucky, or he is skilled at attacking unsuspecting foes.

Juliana has one more round on the winch to get the gate closed.

Just as Boog was about to turn from the palisade, a glittering burst sprung up off to his right, clearly outlining the fleeing Toler. He focused his Power on the miscreant, but instead of standing, dazed, the man picked up speed and fled into the forest.

"Strong mind, that one has", he thought out loud, forgetting that the others could read such transmitted thoughts. The glittering fiend sped off into the night, and Boog watched as the light faded into the trees some distance away. Well, he'd had a better shot than he'd expected of catching the man, but the outcome was the same: Toler had gotten away.

Boog stepped down from the little platform and made his way along the north wall of the complex, sauntering along to see if any work needed done with regarding to securing the situation for the night.[sblock=OoC: ]That's one use of Brain Lock, 15/34 PP remaining. Range is 150', so Boog won't get a second chance.[/sblock]
