"If the paladin headed to Braeholl, then that is where we should look for him...Until then, however, let us head for the place where he was apparently headed!"

Unless anyone has something else to add, Eusebius will go and pay the bill for the whole party, then find the dwarf and indicate to him that they will be travelling with him to Braeholl.
Boog nodded his assent to Eusebius's plan.

The group gathers and heads north. They have the two light horses they took from the assassins. The journey lasts several days. All wounds heal. Eusebius takes a little time in Beth Hannon, the next large town, to investigate Arkenthrasher. He hears only what he's heard before. The paladin was well respected. If he had any faults, it was that he was uncompromisingly brave and unswervingly moral.

While in Beth Hannon, staying at a little hostel near the road, Boog has a strange dream. He is beset by various dark figures. He fights well, using his psionics to good effect. But he eventually runs out of power and the dark figures keep coming. Overwhelmed, he is struck down. An evil face leans over his prone form. It is a woman, both beautiful and horrible, human yet inhuman. She raises a wicked curved, serrated knife. She plunges it down...Boog awakes writhing in his cot.

At this point, please take a moment to consider how you would travel. Who is riding what? What do you keep in your hands as you go?

The trip goes well. No more encounters disturb their march. They have put in a long day now, here, the last day of Novemeber. They left early in hopes of reaching Braeholl by nightfall. It is now getting dark. What remains of the sunlight is just reaching over the canopy of leaves overhead. On the other side of the road, to the east, you see that the forest begins to thin out and give way to a large hill that captures the light of the setting sun; to the west, the richness of the Forest carries on and on. With out warning, several husky looking shapes emerge from the western tree line and scurry across the road and back through the trees. Being several hundred feet away, it appears that you avoided detection. Yet it does not matter, for you can now hear a horse galloping through the forest behind you. You turn in time to see a large war-horse stopping on the road. Its rider has spotted you; even though he wears a priest's robes, he is obviously not a priest. Seconds later, four more figures, heavily armed and also wearing robes, break the tree line.
Even in the dimming light, the figures are unmistakable. They are orcs.

The five orcs are about 40 feet behind the part at this point. Initiative: Eusebius, Beamer, Banion, Orcs, Juliana, Boog.

I think Julianna, Banion and Beamer have moves of 20', while the others have moves of 30'. Therefore it would be sensible for the heavilly armored Julianna to ride one horse and the two halflings to double up on the other. Even combined, the lightly armored little folk shouldn't cause the horse too much strain.

Banion would like to have his shield readied, but he won't have a mindblade manifested at all times. The mindblade is, of course, fully charged... that's usually the first thing he checks in the morning. At the first sign of trouble, he'd manifest the mindblade as a move action, so I suppose he might have the mindblade in hand depending on how quick he heard the horses. His listen is +9.

Initiative for Banion (1d20+4=23)

Oops, missed that.

"Stay back, or we shall take you for highwaymen and defend ourselves!"

Manifest mindblade and full defend.

Beamer speaks some arcane words to ward himself against attacks, and then draws forth a stick from his haversack while holding on with his other hand.

OOC:
Cast mage armor, draw wand of scorching ray
Spells remaining:
0th: 6, 1st: 6, 2nd: 4

Juliana will ride her own horse.

Juliana draws her Guisarme, and manifests Offensive Prescience.

OOC: 4 PP on Offensive Prescience, for +3 DMG.

[sblock=OOC]If no-one else needs the horse, Eusebius will ride one of the horses, and lead the mule. Otherwise, he'll be riding the mule.[/sblock]As soon as he spots the orcs, Eusebius calls upon the blessing of the god. He then slides from the saddle, unlooping the spiked chain that rests over his shoulders. He stands ready to receive the charge.

[sblock=OOC]Casts Bless (duration 20 rounds).

Attack +0 (Spiked chain), damage 2d4+2, x2. Reach 10 ft.

NB: Eusebius does not need to drop the chain to engage in unarmed combat. (PHB p41: "A monk's attacks may be with either fist interchangeably or even from elbows, knees, and feet. This means that a monk may even make unarmed strikes with her hands full.")[/sblock]
