S1: The Strange Case of Aif Jenkins' Farm (E13 judge) - Concluded

Banion will pack away the various items previously owned by the Orcs.

ooc: How do we want to handle creating a loot list? Do I need to put all this stuff on my character sheet, or do you want to skip those sorts of details and work it out only once we're somewhere we can sell?

The items are high-weight, low-value. We'll figure something out if it comes to the point where you are able to pack them up, and take them someplace and want to sell them. (You may end up with other ideas of what to do with them, as time goes by. So far, you have killed/captured 19 orcs)

Also, as Banion cleans up outside, he can see the shed on the top of the hill where the two red-bandana'd figures ran to. As darkness falls, he still thinks he can make out a form up there, watching him as he works.

There's someone watching me out here guys. I'll finish collecting the loot and then take a closer look. Find out if the people we're rescuing know anyone in a red bandana.

ooc: Between handy haversacks and saddlebags, we ought to be able to carry away a pretty large amount of relatively low value junk. Given Banion's lack of luck so far in taking away treasure, he's reluctant to miss even minor opportunities for profit.

Unless directed not to procede (such as someone saying he should wait for the others) Banion will do as follows once he's seperated loot from Orcs:

Knowing Orcs see well in the dark and that at least some of the enemy are Orcs, Banion will make sure not to rely on darkness for concealment. He will go around the other side of the house from his observers in order to gain total concealment. He'll then head for bush or tall grass and start sneaking around as carefully as possible. He'll go slow and easy and take no chances. (In game terms, he wants to take 10 on hide and move silently.)

Hide +15 take 10 = DC 25 spot check to see Banion, plus modifiers for distance etc.
Move Silently +13 take 10 = DC 23 listen check to hear Banion, plus modifiers for distance etc.

Spot +7
Listen +9

Beamer asks the new found farmers, "We should find your women folk before the orcs do. Do you know who the men in red bandannas are creeping about outside?"

I'll assume you untie the farmers, then.

All the farmers/farm hands are men, in their 20s or 30s, and all in pretty good shape.

"Ain't no women here." one says in reply. "And I ain't seen no men in red bandanas. It was just orcs what attacked us. Who are you?"

Another adds, "You ought to head to Braeholl. If these orcs invaded, there's probably a lot more of them. Someone needs to alert the soldiers. Call out a general alarm. This looks like an invasion. Look at these guys. They're an army."

Banion moves behind the house. By now, the sun is completely down. A crescent moon is visible, so he can see to some extent. He has two choices for approaching the shed on the hill. He can move around to the West, towards the barn side and approach through the field. The field has some tall crops still there, though once clear of the field, the hill presents no cover. The other option would be to move into the trees and go East around the house. He could then stay in the trees, with excellent cover, until he got to the NE of the hill. Either way, on the hill, there is no cover. From the east, he'd have to travel about 150 feet w/o cover. From the West, it would be more like 200 feet.

"I'm Beamer. We were headed for Braeholl, but I'm not sure how close we got. How far is it? And if you just work here, where's the boss?"

Over the mindlink, I think they know why the orcs are attacking, and I don't think its as simple as orcs rampaging through the land. Strange too that the farmers would be all men. Surely they have families though I'm not familiar with the area so maybe this is normal.

Banion has to travel approximately 1800 feet to reach the closest forested area to the hut on the top of the hill. When moving silently, he moves about 20 feet/round, thus it will take him about 90 rounds, or 9 minutes. Let's call it 12 actually, since he's moving through thick bushes and trees in the dark. I checked up on mindlink. Once established, it works at any range, and lasts 50 minutes.

Juliana walks through the rest of the house. She finds a keg of beer in the dining room, which has been tapped.

In the family room there is a very nice woodsman's axe hanging over the fireplace. It might be worth some money. There's also a locked iron chest. There are several bedrooms, kitchen closets, etc. Nothing suspicious jumps to Juliana's mind. I assumed she didn't search, just walked through.

Downstairs, the oldest of the men speaks up. "I am Aif Jenkins. This is my farm. These men work for me here. My wife and kids died years ago, I'm afraid. Braeholl is about 9 miles up the road, so it will take you about an hour and a half on a horse. You've killed all the orcs here, so you should clear on out. Tell Mayor Varnsen in town about this. These orcs are organized. There's no reason they'd just come and attack me. I'm sure they're raiding all over the place. Come down from the Northern Mountains, I'm sure."

You see no reason to distrust Aif from his words and presentation.
